Silverfox Transmission SPT-1 Valve Body for AOD

As you all know I now have the AOD transmission in my 65! I rebuilt the trans fully and put wide ratio gearing from 4R70W in it ..
for valve body, while I had read that having wide ratio will cause a shift issue ... like too late 1-2 shift or too soon 2-3 shifts ... I was willing to still rebuild the valve body myself and put a shift kit in it. So I opted for the transgo no-yo-yo kit .. (the other kits specifically said that they didn’t support wide ratio) ..
the shift kit is fairly detailed and complicated to put in. Anyway.. once all was installed, I had no major issues in the trans , all gears shifted ..  but my 1-2 would happen at 12-15mph and then 2-3 pretty soon after that.. engine rpm never went past 2500-2750 for part to half throttle .. even WOT, the 3rd came in too quick.
The downshifts were late, the trans would let the engine bog down before picking numerically lower gear. This would have been much worse with no transgo shift kit. but was still not enough. I had given it a good college try, it was good but not great!

So I decided to try talking to Dan at silverfox.. as his VB are really good price ... and he customizes them for your gearing , setup , and driving .
He even does TV delete (constant pressure VB)
I decided on the wide ratio modded street VB , with TV pressure still active so it won’t jerk me on all shifts .

I have a SPT-1 valve body , and I gotta tell you, the difference is amazing!!! The shifts are firm and timely!

Anywhere past half throttle, the 1-->2 shift squeals my tires! and I love it! The 4th doesnt hit until past 45 for part throttle and for Past half throttle, until i let up on the gas pedal.

The downshifts when decelerating are amazing too! so now if decelerating for the red light, the light turns green, I can just touch the throttle, and I am already in 1st or second depending on the speed.. Yes you would say.. thats what the automatic is supposed to do anyway, so BIG WHOOPTY DOO.. but having changed the gearing in the trans to a wide ratio, that is hard to accomplish without an electronic shift controller or having to opt for a full manual valve body. I wanted neither.

So all that to say his valve body cost me $325 shipped , and it was the best purchase I have done for the AOD! BTW he sends new filter, and gaskets, and a rubber bonded accumulator upgrade for the AOD with this purchase, included.
(ofcourse it cost me another 100 in Motorcraft MerconV fluid), but thats a risk I knew I would be taking
I can thankfully now say that I am done messing with the trans for a while.. I am happy with the way it runs! ..

Highly recommend Silverfox Transmissions !

EDIT: Nevermind Gaba, I read up about your vb on the SF site.

Glad you're happy with the vb. Does the shift from 3-4 occur all the time regardless of shifter location, or does the shifter need to be in OD? I axe because I've read of some vb mods that make the trans shift from 3-4 every time.

Re: Silverfox Transmission SPT-1 Valve Body for AOD

My DD S-10 has the 4L-60 with a shift kit. It has always "short-shifted" between 1-2 butt.....firmly when the pedal is mashed! Barks the tires nicely when doing so.
My beefw ith it (when it was stock) was how it would constantly slide in and out of OD at 45 mph. Shift kit cured that so I am happy.
Your right......its amazing the difference a shift kit will make in an A/T car.
AND the firm shifts are actually good for the tranny! (less heat build-up)
Glad you got it sorted out............now let's talk about a big/honk-in/snotty idling /grumpy roller cam!!

Gaba, you are a great example of a novice doing his homework and coming up with a great product in the end.  I can see it now...  Gaba-Gears.  You should build up a few and offer them for sale.

No this VB can be shifted out of OD if moved to the D position at any time .. and it stays on D .. ;)

Even my old VB did that actually , just that it took forever to finally get into D when asked lol

Re: Silverfox Transmission SPT-1 Valve Body for AOD

I'm gonna have to ditto MS's reply about what a testament it is on your tranny rebuild. Outstanding work Gaba!

Since I'm already into my AOD for $1,800 I'll skip the additional $325 and live with mine and do the AOD shuffle. There is an epoxy mod that can done to the stock valve body which makes it a manual shift I might try if I ever get motivated.

Re: Silverfox Transmission SPT-1 Valve Body for AOD

Thanks for the offer, but no. I've spent enough cash on this aod.
