Happened to run across this by chance.
Was looking at some of the Sweden cruise nights just for fun.
Thought this may be useful for those down south where it does get HOT!!
I know...he has a dodge.

This video is what got me thinking about the vapor separator fuel filters , and that’s why I made a post about it last week .. lol
I actually just installed a wood/fiber edelbrock spacer under the carb , that in itself helped A LOT

That is funny! 😂😂
I guess great MIMES think alike.
I did have some hard starts many years ago.
One day I could hear the gas percolating in the carburetor (edelbrock).
Realized how hot the intake became on a hot day in San Jauquin Valley of California.
I installed just a 3/8” fiber type insulator and it stopped the percolating.
Never knew about this solution as well.
I like the idea of insulating the carb from the intake just for longevity.
Heat tends to break stuff after a while...so does extreme 🥶 cold.

Every Edelbrock should come with an insulator .... not saying they do, just that they should.

I was waiting for that dude to start welding something!!

Doesn't the thickness of an insulator change the way the engine perform? There are a lot of different thicknesses out there.

I don’t know how it helped , sure didn’t hurt .. depending on how tall 1/2”—1” is good with a 302 4bbl per my reading .. I did it more for insulation .. and yes that works!
Heat soaked car starts a lot faster now .

I have a 1/2 inch thick open phenolic spacer on mine. Heat transfers through metal really well, not so much with a phenolic or wood spacer. It does help a lot, but it doesn’t solve the problem completely.
From reading, the general consensus is you need a dyno to really tell which spacer would give the best HP gain on any engine combination. A 3-10 HP gain or loss is well worth it for lessening the effects of hot starts. I would be more worried with air cleaner to hood clearance.

Bolted...Exactly on both accounts! ....and cost.
Just think, the idea back in the day when someone decided to make a wood spacer.🤔
He probably did weld something with the battery cables...edited the video?😁

I do want to say that I was told , adding a spacer is another place there can be a vacuum leak, so why add one... so to make sure I wasn’t adding a vacuum leak, I measured manifold vacuum before and after install to make sure no leaks were created . In fact I had 1hg more vacuum after so I was good

Butt Hey Don, we've already got a vapor lock preventers on our Stangs.

In San Joaquin Valley of Kalifornia, it's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

With enough time and dollars, I will join the club!!

Seems a good, thick gasket accomplishes similar insulation. With a 351 and tall intake, a spacer is not an option when using a Cobra oval air cleaner.
I have never experienced vapor lock with my car. Not sure why some have it and some don’t.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
