2011 seats arrived.

The new to me 2011 GT/CS seats arrived today. Now I just have to figure out how to mount them. The passenger seat looks pretty straight forward; remove 2011 rails, install 1967 rails, bolt in car. Will probably have to trim some of the side skirting (plastic) to get the seats as low as possible on the stock 67 seat pans.

The Drivers seat I think will be the same. The power everything seat rail is real tall compared to the passengers. The seat pans must not be the same height in the 2011 Mustang.

Ebay of all places. I made an offer and they took it, although shipping brought it back to almost the same price. $300 for the seats (back ones too) and $200 shipping 295 lbs from Georgia. Drivers airbag was blown but sewn back up which is how you'll find 90% of the seats, although they have not been repaired. I probably paid to much but I now have them.

Car-Part.com had a lot of seats but prices were high and you bought one at a time. I gave up looking for a pair and went with the above.

Re: 2011 seats arrived.

I removed the 2011 tracks and installed the 67 track on the drivers seat to see how they fit. There is still a little work to do but not much. The bottom of the 2011 seats is not flat at the rear seat rail attach point and needs a shim installed. The front of the seat need to come up about 1/4-3/8" to raise the side skirt upholstery attach point off the carpet. The steel rod at the bottom of the seat is the culprit. They need to be cleaned also.

That looks real good, Gary.  Have you tested the seating height, hip fit, wheel clearance, etc?

They look pretty good.  I hope my '06 seats fit as well in my 64.5 when I test fit them.

Bob,

I did! The drivers side at this point is only installed with temp fasteners. Wheel clearance is better than the original seats, the reason being that the 2011 seats sit further back. More legroom, more wheel clearance and about the same headroom as with the original seats. A 1" drop would make it perfect, although that mod will have to wait till winter.

I took Mike's suggestion of the hammer and modified it a little, OK a lot. I used pipe wrenches instead to bend a joggle in the offending steel rod that sits lower than the seat tracks. I just hope it's enough. I thought about cutting/welding. Pictures of the install to follow when done.

Dan,

I removed all the 2011 seat tracks and electrics and installed the 1967 tracks.  I now have the passenger seat complete and bolted in. Carolyn just sat in it and even with her 36" inseam she has legroom to spare. The pax seat was manual and still is. The 2011 drivers seat was electric everything, up, down, sideways, etc and is now manual with the 67 tracks. The only thing electric on the drivers seat will be the lumbar support. I'll post a bunch of pics when I'm finished.

So far this is about the best $500 I have spent on the car in a long time. I can recoup some of my expense by selling the complete TMI covered Sport R seats sans the tracks. They look great, are comfortable, but did not work for me and my bulk.

Re: 2011 seats arrived.

I finished the install today and all I can say is "Why did I wait so long to do this?, Oh yea, I know, I'm cheap." In all fairness the TMI seat conversion cost more than the 2011 seats. Granted, I can sell the TMI's and recoup some money.

I took her out for a drive with the new seats and what a difference they make. She runs better and seems to have twice the power. I'll bet the gas mileage has gone up too. I think she's happy! What a joy to drive my 50+ year old Mustang again.

A big plus is I gained leg room, a lot of leg room; about 2-3" more and I'm not sure why, but I'm not complaining. My sight picture out the windows is just about perfect so I don't think I'll be installing 69 seat pans this winter.

The only thing I would do different is to move the seats 1/4" closer to the center of the car. The retractable seat belt is a tight fit between the seat and the inside of the rocker panel. Oh well, next time.

For 39 years I have owned this 67 coupe. A lot of changes have happened in those years. Of all the changes the best was in 2016 when we headed to Montrose for our first bash and the people that make the bash great. I hated to leave her home for the MSBB2019 and I promise that won't happen again. My little 67 coupe makes me smile.

Re: 2011 seats arrived.

Really great to hear, Gary.  My friends put the 2011 seats in the Falcon Project and they are great.  Were you able to keep any of the power features?  I always heard that the seats would be too high in a Mustang with the power features installed.

Now, a little AC and cruise control and you'll have a class A cruiser.

I'll be in touch to discuss the trip to Bash 17 next year.
