Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Losing motivation to work on the car before April been thinking about not putting in the new engine the one that’s in it is can make another couple runs to Myrtle Beach. May just rolled the old coupe as is with another couple runs to cruising the coast Mississippi and or Mustang fest on Mustang Island it don’t leave a lot of time to work on it lol 😂 the more power is wearing off now just need to to get from A to b

Coupe..........leave it be............it's proven itself worthy and capable of getting you to all those Bash's and beyond so, don't screw with it now.  You have confidence in the car and that matters most.  The minute you start making big changes, something will happen to either delay your work or you'll run out of time or you'll get it installed and not feel comfortable making a long trip.  Wait until after the Bash and then start with the new engine install.......less pressure then.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

I'll bet when you get back from Cruis'in-the-Coast...........you'll be motivated!
Some "really bad'uns"   will be there(they always are)
What days you planning on being there?  We are going for a few days butt.......not taking the Mustang this year.( 'You-know-who' wants to go!
Motivation..................hmmmmmmm....Let's see.....   IF you got the new engine already built......it won't ake but a 1/2day to do the swap.  Then another couple days chasing gremlins and such. We talking a long weekend and you should be phat!
That's IF you do it all by yourself....less with hep.
Whine-knot video it and post it on the board for all us fellas to watch?! ('Specially the open header cam break-in segment!)
It could be used as a "teaching moment"!!

I know its hot in Houston so you could wait for it to cool off a little...
(WAIT!!! Houston and cool off CAN'T be used in the same sentence!
Maybe by Christmas  time the weather will be nicer for outdoor work..(howz that?!
Post it on YouTube and you could be famous!!!
Hang-in-there.homey......April-at-the-beach will be here afore you know it!

How'd I do?! Motivated yet?

Like Josh said, run it for now since it has proven itself worthy of long trips.  This would allow ya more time to tinker on other projects at your own pace as time permits too.  When you’re ready to tackle the swap, you’ll know it.  We all have been there brother.

Sounds like you just need to keep it running.  Few things demotivate like a pile of disarticulated parts.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

There's a time for everything and you're telling yourself that it's not time yet. It's hard to take something apart when it's running well. I'm building a T5 for ours and I'm not going to put it in until I'm ready to do so. The C4 in it works fine and takes the abuse, so I'll just wait until I think it's the right time to start causing problems that I'll have to solve.

Until then I'll enjoy a nice running car, just without overdrive.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

But wait!!!  There’s more!!!

You have a paid-for engine sitting there with HOW MUCH more horsepower???  And you have the tools and expertise to easily do the swap in a weekend???

Get off your butt and get out there and swap it out. You will not be rewarded with extra horsepower unless you do something besides talk about it.

If you are concerned about reliability issues, reuse the existing carb and distributor so it will make for less tuning.  If you don’t install that thing soon, it is going to rust itself together and you will never be able to use it.

Borrow a pickup, put the new engine in the back and trailer the car to my place and we will swap that thing out in a day, then hit the lake the next day.

Otherwise, just sell the new one and rely on the old wimpy one to “get you there”.

There...  motivated yet?

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Wow, Charles.....where did the “I don’t want to swap a motor” come from? Or was I not listening well enough on Sunday? (I’ve had that problem!!) Your biggest issue on Sunday was the intake....use the one of the two you already have or buy an Air Gap.

I would make the trip to Steve’s to help out. We got in-laws that live close by to stay with.

With all the running Charles has planned, he still offered to help me pull the motor out of my car when I’m ready. Classy guy.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Personally I think the problem is mentum.  You had plenty of mentum but I think your quest for the "next most important thing" has left you in a situation where you now have less mentum than before.  So if you really think that new engine is the NMIT, you need to find a mentum source and get mo-mentum.  But be sure to get plenty because you'll probably need it to chase down all the snipes that surely will pop up when you start messing with a perfectly good and reliable coupe.....Daddy.

IMO, drive the coupe to Canyon Lakes and go boating.  Drive the coupe home and wherever else you want to drive it.  Then in April drive it to the Bash.  Then with all the mentum you'll get from that you can put the new drag engine in next summer.

Yeah, and that old white 66 coupe would have made several more bash trips without any issues as well.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Yup, but that was before I somehow picked up a dose mentum. Fortunately I now have way less mentum...and I'm very careful not to become infected with mo-mentum.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Isn't there someone in Houston in need of a new engine from total lock up?  Swap your engine out and donate old one to Bolteds cause. Two birds, one stone.

Re: Motivation some body say something please!!!! it may help

Bolted probably needs a big block replacement, not a 302.

The bigger they are, the worser they break!

Thanks for offering and thinking about me Ed. Al McGee made that same offer on a spare motor sitting in his garage. It would be too many changes for me to swap over to the small block, then swap back once the next one is ready.
