AOD/ backup lights

Since I had to remove the AOD in my 65  to replace the rear main seal, my backup lights stay on with the car in park but goes off in reverse and on in neutral and off in drive.  I really havent looked into it yet.  there is no adjustment in the switch that I know of.  Worked fine prior to removing

Re: AOD/ backup lights

Does your transmission plug go up to the two  flat blade 2 pin connectors at the top middle of the firewall?  If so, it sounds as if they are connected backwards.  I seem to remember the plug that goes on the transmission itself would only go on in one orientation, but that was a factory plug end I had. Maybe an aftermarket plug doesn't have the indention?   Do you have the aftermarket harness, or did you cut and splice the 66 harness to the aod plug.  I have a pin diagram on my computer if you wind up needing it.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: AOD/ backup lights

I spliced into the factory 2 pin connectors, yes its possible I got them backwards.  I thought about that but then I thought there's no way I would do something like that!!!! LOL  I'll check and switch when I have time to get into it!!
Thanks Greg

Re: AOD/ backup lights

The way you described the “lights on” operation, sounds like you spliced the lights to the neutral safety/starter solenoid circuit.

Re: AOD/ backup lights

well considering that the same switch controls both and they both have identical 2 pin plugs( except for color) Its very possible I have the 2 reversed!!

Re: AOD/ backup lights

I’ve done it too...with the C4.  Great anti theft...have to be in reverse to start the car. 😁
