I'm installing "quarter wave attenuators". Both 2+2 and Vert drone
I think "H" and "X" pipes while adding to performance, definately are a source for tuning both exhaust pipes to a common harmonic/drone.
Which in my two cases are going to be are going to be 22 inches long w/90d bend close to the entrance.
One for each side, now I just need to determine if they can be installed before the mufflers.

I wonder why my flowmaster 50's did not produce any drone? 351W, with long headers, 2-1/2" to the mufflers and 2-1/4" tailpipes. Is there something special about a flowmaster 50?

Drone is getting less noticeable. I have put about 300 miles on the engine and exhaust and Its getting better. I unintentionally had the carburetor set ever so slightly rich so I am sure some carbon has added mass. I also know the sound of mufflers will change with use. Still drones a little at 2000 but the sound does not amplify and build like it did before if I stay at that RPM.

Idea... Just for test purposes... If mass of the pipe will affect resonance, as surely it will, try using a couple of large radiator hose clamps and clamp a length of steel bar alongside one of those straight sections and see if anything changes. Maybe you could "tune" it by placing it in a different location. This would be a great test and if it changes things, you have something else you could sell. Plus it won't cost you anything, and you have a lift so it will be easy to do.

This is a low cost fix.
Get a18"x 10" inch piece of expanded metal, the kind that is used for plastering over and roll it up over a broom stick. You will end up with with a rolled mesh tube that you can stuff into one of the mufflers.
This works, I have done it on my 05 Mustang to cure the drone.
There is virtually no back pressure but it seems to change the resonance point.
I like THAT for a quick'n-easy "let's see if THIS works" idea!

Hey Sal, It does work. A few guys on another Mustang web site have also had good results from "The Low Buck" fix.
The general consensus from the guys on that other web site is that "Corsa" mufflers are the ones to get for no drone synrome, too bad they don't make any fthat fit the old stangs.

The other possibility is that the rubber hangers are softening from use.

More like Tooo Bad thry're $700.
I got to find me some place to bend 90d into the end of a 26-28 in stick of 2" stainless pipe.
