Since tiny pic is gone we need to be able to download our own avatar without going through a picture hosting site.
Is there a way?

I guess you mean upload and not download, but no, from what I can see there's right now no way without using somewhere to host the picture file.

Maybe MustangerMike would agree to host the avatars by placing them on the www.mustangsteve.com website.
I think this would be a good idea because as long as mustangsteve is on the net, it is very likely FYIFORD will still be up and running.
What do you think, Michael? It would mean a little extra work on your part to load the pics, but it woukd guarantee some degree of continuity.
Or, does someone who is more web-tech savy than me have an easier to accomplish idea?

I do not know what the forum's admin page looks like or what level of features we are using, but I went over to boardhost.com and saw this which I assume Rudi is asking about?? Hakan, you are saying that boardhost gives no option on the backend to store small avatar files?

There's AFAIK four different levels of authorization at this site, a visitor that's not logged in, a logged in user, moderator and administrator. I only have moderator authorization which means that I have rather limited possibilities that's not much more than what a regular logged in user can do at the site. My answer to Rudi was based on what I can see can be done through the menu using "My Options" and then "Avatar & Signature" and finally "Add an avatar" where the only options are either some avatars provided by boardhost or adding your own custom avatar from an URL.

No worries as I'm very happy tonight anyway as I finally figured out how to get the metal connectors out of the plastic relay sockets I took from a BMW at the wrecking yard last week.

Is there a way to “upload image” for avatars from my photo library?
I don’t understand the website http// description for avatar.

The image you use must be hosted somewhere. Maybe try posting a small picture on the forum, then use the url properties from that pic to create an avatar.

Thanks Steve. Will try that.

You’re half way there Mike.
Select the image you want to upload as your avatar from the forum...guessing the dragster in the air🤙🏼
The ibb.co/imgbb will open the picture you uploaded to forum.
Below picture there is an “about” button with up/down arrows next to it.
Select it.
Additional information for links to full image and thumb size image appear.
I tried both and they work. Resolution is the difference.
Select appropriate “copy” button.
Go back to forum to add avatar and paste address.
Then edit address to only include portion from “http.....to .....jpg”
DO NOT INCLUDE THE QUOTE MARKS.
Http may be in there a couple of times.
Since I was doing this on my phone, I copied and pasted entire address into a draft message and edit from there was way easier for me. And I could see entire thing and know what to delete. The forum box is short.

I could do what MS suggested, but how would one automate such a solution? That is, so that I don't have to personally upload everyone's avatar to the MustangSteve server?
Offline
Thanks I posted the picture as a test trying to do the avatar still working on it.

Just post a pic on the forum as coupedaddy suggested, then follow the directions. If I can get it done, anyone can.
If you post a pic, also title it AVATAR, DO NOT DELETE.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
