MUSTANGSTEVE ....A FEW YEARS BACK I GOT YOUR MAVERICK SPINDLES YOU HAD PULLED OFF YOUR CAR. I BELIEVE THEY ARE 1974 MAVERICK....WELL ITS COME TIME TO PUT NEW WHEEL BEARINGS ON PASSENGER SIDE ANYHOW ON MY 66 MUSTANG. I HAVE NOT PULLED THEM YET BUT WHILE ON HE LIFT THE OTHER DAY I NOTICED I COULD LIFT THEM WHEEL UP AND DOWN A LITTLE AND DEWAYNE RICHARDSON THE ONE THAT HAD THE 66 RED FASTBACK DRAGSTER SAID IT NEEDED WHEEL BEARINGS....I ASSUME I GET BEARINGS FOR 74 MAVERICK RIGHT? BUT MY MAIN QUESTION IS MY DRIVER SIDE TIEROD END IS NEEDING REPLACING WHICH I WILL REPLACE BOTH...WHAT DO I NEED TO PURCHASE TO FIT THE MAVERICK SPINDLES AND DO I JUST REPLACE THE ENDS OR THE WHOLE TIEROD?

The tie rods have three parts; an inner, an outer, and an adjusting sleeve. Years ago I ditched the factory adjusting sleeves for solid adjusters with jamb nuts. This makes changing the toe setting easier. I would be sure to buy quality tie rod ends from MOOG or the like. IMO if you're taking the old ones off due to wear; replace the whole thing. I find even if the old parts show no wear that once one part is worn out the vehicle just rides and handles better when everything is new instead of replacing one piece here and one piece there.

Billy, get your hands dirty. Remove the bearings, wipe off the grease, note the bearing numbers and buy new ones. Reassemble......done.

You could have the same symptoms with worn ball joints. Check them out before you get out your wrenches.

Order them from Home Depot. See how long it takes for you to get them. I guess they ari in the spring door department.

I doubt you need new adjusting sleeve. Solids are nice, but if you drive a small cold chisel into the seam on the stock sleeves to spread them a tiny bit, then spray with wr40, they will thread in/out quite easily by hand.

Billy, also... I forgot to mention in previous post. Since you have Maverick/Granada type spindles, the new tie rods will be too long and will butt together when installed into the adjusting sleeves. You will note evidence of the old ones being trimmed when you disassemble them. The new tie rods must be trimmed 1/8” where they thread into the adjusting sleeves. If using new sleeves, they must be shortened 1/8” on both ends also. The old sleeves can be reused, and they have already been trimmed.
If you do not do this, it is very likely you will not be able to set the toe properly.
So, that makes EIGHT CUTS total if using new sleeves, or just four if using the already trimmed sleeves.
