Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

Might be a silly question, but looking in some of your trunks at the last Bash, I don't remember seeing one. I carry a can of fix a flat, tire plugs, and a AAA card, so I was thinking about using the space my spare tire takes up for more important stuff

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

I have a 2001 COBRA spare tire.  The rim is spun aluminum so it is really light.  Hopefully will work well enough if ever needed,  It does take up room!  But YOU have a huge trunk in your car!

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

No spare here for at least 20k miles or so, most of those cross country trips of two to three days, most with extended stays.
I carry a small 12V compressor and some stuff we Canadians call Green Slime, a tire sealant.  I have a CAA card, AAA in the states.
My tires were always less than a few years old  when I was doing those long stints.

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

I carry one.

What spare tires will clear the 14” brakes?

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

Fix a flat comes with me on long trips.  The place where my spare used to be is taken up by an amp rack.

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

Had a Cobra aluminum spare but it was nearly two inches larger diameter than the tires on the car.  Figured that might not be too good for the LS rearend  and would require always putting the spare on the front and the front on a flat rear...lot of trouble.  Then I realized that the spare would be VERRRRRRRRY close to fenders and stuff on the front.
Bought another wheel and tire to match what's on the car and just live with the trunk space/weight.

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

A spare tire is not what I needed for the Michigan Bash!! I do want to carry one, but don’t want to loose the real estate. Add a jack, tools, and the rest of my junk equals a full trunk and back seat too.

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

I always carry a spare.  My '15 GT came with just a spray can and a small compressor.  As you can probably assume, I had a flat with it.  Bead came off the rim and no amount of air volume was going to fill it back up.

Luckily for me I spent the extra money for a real spare.  30 minutes later I was off and running.

Same thing for the hot rod.  I found a16" donut spare($10) from PickAPart.  It is much smaller than a full sized tire.

Always have a spare.  Usually, by the time you realize you have a flat, the tire is destroyed

I used to have a huge trunk. Battery on one side, sub woofer on the udder, speakers on the back divider panel with a trim panel on the trunk covering the back of the speakers.

My current spare is a 2001 Mustang 18x8 with a used 245/45-18 tar. With a 26" front tire and 27" rear, suppose a 27" spare would be in order, or be symmetrical on the 4 corners.

Re: Who All Carries a Spare Tire?

I just got rid of my E78-14 spare tire that was in the car when I bought it. I replaced it with a new one to match my rear tires lest I get a flat. I too scairt to not have one even though I never did use the original one.
