Well, if your car needs a foxbody 5.0 distributor cover, that one is sure the one to have!
Never understood why Ford deemed that part necessary.

I removed the hard plastic cover of the 95 donor, cos it looked ... meh.
I've never understood why Ford used them either, water splash protection?, insulation?
I'm sure they had a reason .... just don't know what it was.

Used to be years ago that a Ford would not run if there was rain a hunnerd miles away!

Yeah, clearly it had a purpose. No manufacturer spends money on anything unless it does something or prevents some warranty issue.
However, we ran 5.0s without them rain, snow, shine, etc. and never had any issues...

If a manufacture put the dist. on the back end, you wouldn't need that cover......Actually I don't know why...

In Oz, our version of a duraspark had the module built into the distributor. On a 6 cyl, it was prone to water and oil/dirt build up damage.
The Fox with a TFI module was the first use of the rubber cover, So I assumed it was protection for the module.
But a 94/95, with remote TFI still had a cover, admittedly a different one though.
Rich, but then it would be a Ch...Ch... brand X.
I think I prefer it without the cover.

I kinda like it.
Those came out in about 86?? That was the first year for the good fuel injection. Did that distributor get a bunch of fancy electronic du dads? Could have been a means of protection till they figured out it wasn’t needed.
My 85 didn’t have one when I bought it in 89.

The EFI distributors are actually pretty simple, because the ECU controls timing, which is why no need for external boxes. All you can set is base timing, but what I actually learned over the years is that you're best off to just set base timing at 0 as it calls for, and make timing adjustments directly in the ECU, but you have to be able to program it in order to do that. Its one of the many tricks used to make "chips" seem like they add 20HP or so, when really all its doing is tuning something Joe Average can't tune anymore.
The cover makes the engine look stock, helps with the sleeper vibe. But as I recall they didn't fit very well over the 8.5-9mm wires we all ran, which is why I think we all ditched them.

Cannot verify, but was told long ago that the cover had something to do with minimizing radio interference. Actually, it seems to me that GM once did somethingv like that to eliminate radio interference, also. On Corvettes.

That one is fancy compared to most that were installed from factory.
Neat little gadget. Handy if washing under hood for detailers.

Dan, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you using a cover?
This one should be a quality piece, as it's made by Daniel Carpenter.
TKO, I think you left a 1 out, base timing should be set at 10 degrees, ECU makes calculations expecting it at 10.
Normally, I wouldn't ask for input on ascetics, but like Sal sez, forums bin kinda slow. And it seems like a decent product for those that need one

Barry, I do have a plain jane cover from factory.
Did not have it on for the Bash...maybe next year!

Dan, ya might need it with all the snow you're gunna be driving through.
Is your wife lookin forward to it as much as you?
