Is there still a spot for the what the heck were they thinking project

This popped up for sale on my facebook marketplace.  It is advertised as a 1965 Ford Thunderbird.  Inside the ad it calls it a Thunderstang.  I think this one belongs in the HOF.

I like it. But then, I like weird things.

Looks like an early '60s Batmobile.  The work appears pretty good actually.  Interesting.

Was it Dave Kindig that said it costs the same amount of money to make something ugly as it does to make something beautiful?

I sure don't see any 65 Thunderbird cues anywhere...  Proportions are just off, a lot.

Re: Is there still a spot for the what the heck were they thinking project

A bodyman’s afterwork project: 55 T-bird sheetmetal on a shortened 65 Mustang Couple and it almost works. When he shortened the Mustang to make it a two seater he lost the greenhouse proportions. It would be interesting to make a close inspection of the bodywork to see what the quality is. If the work done so far looks good, that could probably be turned into a nice unicorn.

Re: Is there still a spot for the what the heck were they thinking project

The front end is too long.  If you raked the windshield out and changed the proportions of the windows (longer to make them appear less tall) I think you could fix a lot of it.

In the end its kind of like the answer Nick Cage gets in 8mm "He did it because he could."
