Negative on Bakersfield Big Mike. Bakersfield be flat. And the trees across from the track would be an orange orchard. Cool rail though.

Is there a cure for gear drive butt?
Offline
The gear drive is the cure. It was so big that the load placed on the engine would cause the chain to stretch, timing went off, and power fell off. The gear drive prevents it.

TKO, you are the only guy I know that could provide three lines of technical response to a sarcastic question...😳
Offline
Uh-Huh .... I was gunna suggest a corset. but that's more for driving butt.
Offline
More cow bell is the cure...

No piling on, guys. TKO probably just missed sal’s original post title and my attempt at a little humor.

I'd love to say no one ever enters a thread title with a typo on it here, butt...

It actually reminds me of the Y blocks and of course the mod motors we have now.
I still have an Edelbrock gear drive butt in the 289 not the 5.0😁
Everyone always thought I had a blower in it.
You miss that sound don’t ya Mikey?😢

Its on my calendar. You'll see, Geppetto made me a real boy!

That gear drive reminds me of that gizmo we saw in BB’s garage st the Montrose bash. The one his machinist friend made out of brass.
And, to clear up any future confusion, and in reverence to the original BB shortcut use of initials...Henceforth, if you see initials BB, that designates Bullet Bob.
Bearing Bob will just have to be written out in entirety.

Isn't the caption is wrong? The cam on the left rotates clock-wise, the cam on the right counter-clockwise (or vice-versa, depending on crank direction of rotation). Might be time for a revised caption
Offline
Musta meant same as o/e rotation.
Offline
Yeah, the cams definitely spin in opposite directions.
Offline
They spin in opposite directions to help stop "engine-torquing" to the left. Gives a more stable power platform.
J/K!

Yep, like when we used to build pairs of boat engines one was reverse rotation.
Offline
P 38 Lightening had a reverse rotation Allison engine on the port side, the small rudders were not big enough to counteract the torque of both of them running in one direction.
In twin engined aircraft it is a big issue with the port engine out , torque plus asymmetrical thrust has disastrous results for slow to react pilots.
I don’ t think it’s a problem with cams.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
