BUT we always here so much about theft from people and credit card theft!
I had a call this week that my credit card had been compromised and my CC company closed my account. Today I pulled my Acount info up on the internet and found 2 charges for a total of about $4000. one charge was from a company called ATG which is an online division of Lowes. I called them and asked if they could trace an order by the credit card number. The gal took my name and CC number and sure enough she found the order. It was for some furniture. She said it was in transit! She gave me the trucking company and waybill number. I called the trucking co and gave them the waybill number. the trucking company said it was addressed to my address and someone called and changed the address to a Ny city address. I explained the situation and she said well we will just stop that delivery! DONE score one for the good guys!!! The waybill had the NYC Address and the guys cell phone number, this will be given to the police!! poor guy wont get his furniture!!
I also called the second company which was a lumberyard in a small town in california and talked to the owner and he was the one who caught the first transaction trying to get thru his store and called the credit card company, it was some guy from india or somewhere like that and wanted to order some windows and have them shipped to Haiti!! score 2 for the good guys.
I did all this by the time I ever got a call back from my credit card company!
Just glad the Lumberyard owner was smart enough to stop it in the first palce. now if I just knew where these 2 guys got my CC number and address!!

Last year I bought $950 worth of Rugby equipment in South Carolina for delivery to an address in Portland, OR. NOT!!!
Anyway, the CC company ate it and issued new cards...which means we all ate it. What a wonderful world we live in....most of the time.

May have a "fix" for the furniture guy" in NYC.
You and a couple of BIG guys should pay a visit and ask were the funiture will go so y'all can set it up for the "customer".
When he tells you(and you're sure its the right fellow) see if you REALLY can beat somebody untill they poop in their pants/or really can slap the taste out of someones mouth/or stomp a mud hole in someones a$$ and walk it dry/ beat them until they wee-wee in their pants and then beat them for wee-weeing/ or beat him like a borrowed mule.
Then promise another beat down if he calls the poe-poe!
OR get in touch with MarkinSC aka MarkinNJ and see if some of the...."boweezz" in the "orginization" will pay a little visit.
You know...noth'in personel..jus buzniss.

Just say the word Mike. One phone call, and its all taken care of.
It could be the people that live at that address, or it could be the delivery company. It might not even be a valid address.
T - it just happened to my wife a few months ago when she made a return trip to NJ. the bank reimbursed us, but its a hassle, and the credit card company had no desire to find the bad guys which costs them money.
I would make a call to the ny police and tell them that shots have been fired at that address.
Or find out which craigslist serves that area, such as ny city or queens, etc, and put an ad on craigslist that your moving and giving away all your home furnishings both inside and out. If they can see it, they can have it. Early birds are welcome. No need to call first, just come and help yourself.
Or put an ad on craigslist that there is a free kegger and buffalo wing party at thier address. All are welcome. We are having a tailgating party for the NY Giants for opening day game, Wear your jerseys, and bring a chair and come watch the game on my 90 inch tv which will be in the back yard. Help cheer our Giants and start the season off right..
Or you can send a box to that address with a note inside..." i know what you did, i know where you live, and I'm coming for you...signed... the guy you tried to steal from".
I'd call 911 at 2 am and tell them that the house across the street is on fire.

After 30+ years of having credit cards, I have had this same problem occur three times in the last year and a half.
I have just one card and it is mainly used for business purposes. When something funky happens (like I suddenly try to remove cash from an ATM in Chicago - NOT!), the card company always closes the account, and I never have to worry about any of the illegal charges.
However, when the account is closed, I no longer have use of the card, and I use that for online payment of shipping going out, ordering parts, paying for website services, etc. It really screws up my business when I can't do shipping and ordering online. Then I have to do it the slow way through someone else, which charges me extra for the priviledge. The card company will give me a new number and expiration date, but they can't give you the security code - and you can't even order a pizza online without the security code.
The worst thing about is that all three times I have found out my card was canceled when trying to pay a bill at a restaurant and the waitress declines my card. Absolutely hate that.

I attribute this to the fact that we use debit and credit cards more now than ever before. Unfortunately, its just way too easy to do this kind of theft. You give a waitress your credit card at the restaurant, the credit card leaves your sight and goes in the kitchen where they ring it up and then bring it back. Anyone can copy down the credit card numbers and the three digit code on the back and make a phone call to the home shopping network and buy stuff. Businesses are also lax on checking identification and checking names to even see if its a female name on the card being used by a male. Your information is out there so often. The clerk at the gas station, etc. Your social security number is required for everything anymore... its supposed to be a sacred piece of information, but your doctor requires, every job application requires it, its there for everything.
All i can say, is every time a purchase is made with a credit card, i have it set up where it sends a text alert to our cell phone. so we can immediately jump on any suspicious transactions. I also mostly use a card that has a low credit limit just in case it gets stolen so they can't make a major purchase. I use different cards for different things to help me track when the card got used last. Avoid using any cards that are linked to your checking or savings account. I try to use it the debit feature when i have a choice, so that there is no paper reciept for some underpaid store clerk to have a copy of my numbers. Whatever pin number comes in the mail, call and have it changed. I dont trust postal workers either. All your credit cards, and documents that have your ss number, your address, your home address, all kinds of personal informatin is transmitted thru the mail. If anyone can steal your identity, its the postal service.
