Aur Fuel Gauge

I have a full set of Speed Hut gauges to fit in my instrument cluster and adding a voltmeter and want to install an Air Fuel Gauge to help with tuning.

My engine is has a carb so the AF gauge will only keep me informed and help with tuning at least for now but maybe down the road I may do Fuel Injection.

Looking at the AF gauges on their website and I'm kind of lost. Some come with a stand alone controller and others are for specific brand controllers.

When they say controller are they talking about the O2 sensor? I would think that is all that would be needed to get the AF info ?  I see they have one with built in controller but its almost $250.

I don't want to buy one that might not work later on with Fuel injection if I go that route.

Any info you guys can give me would be awesome.

I know they have black Friday sale next week so I'm thinking of picking one up then.

The O2 sensor produces a voltage signal.  The AFR gauge attempts to display the AFR in the units that you have selected.  It is the job of the controller to interpret the signal from the sensor and produce the information to be displayed.

I have the AEM 30-0300 AFR gauge installed.  It has the controller built into the gauge itself.  Very compact unit.  I like it.

Just my thoughts...
If you go with a digital readout gauge, the numbers bounce around ALOT, continuously changing, and seeing that while you drive can be annoying. That said, I mounted mine in the glove box so it faces me when the glove box door is open.   I can see it when I need it, but otherwise is out of sight.


Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

I put mine in a pillar pod along with a voltmeter. There is a small DPDT switch that goes to a O2 sensor on left and right  header.

I have my gauge mounted below the radio.  There is a setting for the update speed.  I don't remember precisely what I set it to, but I find the readout update frequency perfect for my use.  I've been really satisfied with the AEM 30-0300.  To tune my Edelbrock 1403, I had to decrease my primary jets 2 sizes smaller and my secondary jet one size smaller.  The carb was that rich out of the box for my engine.  I did this work at the start of this season.  In addition to tuning the carb, I installed an inline electric fuel pump back near the tank connected to a momentary switch.  I only used it if the car had been sitting for several days before attempting to start it.  My mechanical fuel pump is the primary pump.  I changed all the rubber fuel lines for modern rubber that is tolerant for even E85.  And I installed a fuel return line using a fuel filter that has the nipple for the return as the source.  With these updates, the car started and ran all season without any issues.  This was a welcome change compared to how it performed last season.
