Anyone sell unfinished center consoles? As in just the MDF board or whatever. I will need to get it reupholstered, trying to save money on not buying a finished console.
thanks

You could easily build on for your car. Yu could use 3/8" mdf for the base and sides. Then if you want a compartment in it I'd use a piano hinge. For your cup holders my upholster guy uses either inserts or abs pipe and caps. Use some good wood glue or pl adhesive and some brad nails or upholstery staples. For the gun I would just buy a harbor freight upholstery gun. For the foam, you can purchase that and the upholstery cheap on eBay.

I have a center console for a 65 Mustang that I decided not to use because of the condition of the chrome in the center panel...It seems like such a waste, but I don't know what to do about the chrome appearance.
I tried to recondition it but it didn't work.Any brainstorms..???? Thanks Phil

My 65 center console did have some pitting...still does.
I removed it from the plastic (carefully...I still broke one stud).
Then I used the finest scrubbing pad like scotch Brite and Dawn dish soap to clean it.
It’s not perfect but made a huge difference in appearance.
I masked off the trim and repainted the pebbles.
I noticed the “chrome” paints end up looking like a matte silver...on an experimental piece of metal...careful to apply it sparingly because it is heavy and will fill up grooves.
For me it’s a daily driver car...when snow is gone.😁

Btw, the shifter console piece is the cheap version NPD sells. Contours not exactly like original, parts have some kind of paint not like original that is completely chromed. Good for a daily driver and well made. I have the a/c console, which required cutting to length. I used a portable band saw with fine teeth and taped with painters masking to prevent scratching the nice surfaces and to minimize chrome flaking off during process.

What's the chrome on? If its metal it can be rechromed. If its plastic it can be dipped or painted by a shop that does that. The new paints look exactly like actual chrome; its amazing. A real reflective finish, not just silver like the old bumper paint.
