Center console shift designator 65 mustang

I haven't posted for a long time and think a previous post was done wrong..Anyway ,.this is
probably a picky kind of question..I changed transmissions from a C4  to one out of a 1967 Mustang. the shift pattern is different and the shift indicator doesn't match up...My  "wife" is always putting it the wrong gear..I know, "just put a piece of tape there"..I would like something a little more imaginative and not tacky,,I'm 77 and kind of old fashioned..Thanks a lot Phil....Edmond ok..You can look at my Mustang at Facebook Phil Michael..Oklahoma
There's two of us there ..though..

Phil, if you move this to the main forum, you'll get more input, but maybe some creative screen printing. Or a custom sticker under thin perspex.

Re: Center console shift designator 65 mustang

Phil, can you please verify my understanding of your question?

Is the transmission being placed in the gear adjacent to neutral?
Or accidentally into 2nd gear adjacent to neutral?

PRND21?

Original 65 c4 (green dots) has following pattern:

PRN(2nd gear start and stays in 2nd)D(starts in first gear and auto shifts)1 ??

Re: Center console shift designator 65 mustang

You can file a new notch in the shifter detent to make it stop in normal D position. Then use a 67 shifter bezel with proper PRND21 on it.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Center console shift designator 65 mustang

The problem as I see it ...could be wrong ... is that he wants Little Dot to say D, Green Dot to say 2 and L to say 1.
He can't use a 67 bezel because he has a console.
He can't use the lens of the 67 bezel  because it's curved, and probably shorter.
All I can think of is to try flattening a 67 lens with a heat gun and two sheets of glass, then adding to the length as neatly as possible.
Or a custom sticker under thin perspex.

Re: Center console shift designator 65 mustang

Put a poster board on the visor.  GREEN DOT MEANS DRIVE.

File the extra notch so the shifter automatically stops in that position.
