I searched, read till I fell asleep and I think I have narrowed down my choice of AC systems to this one.
While I'm not fond of their vents I thought about adding these:
For those that have gone before me what do you recomend?

From what I think I see it looks like there are center vents. You would prefer to have them IMHO.

My wife was the one that decided our 68 had to have a\c after a two day August trip home from Georgia in pouring rain. Hot, sweaty, lousy defrost, the a/c fixed all that
I went with CAA but at the time all they offered was a cable operated system which is a pita. The electronic one should make the install cleaner.
Good choice on the Cougar vents, but wow 400 bucks, a bit steep for me. The supplied vents are crappy, really crappy, the center vent is fair.
The supplied crank pulley was crap as well, I went March billet, did not like the compressor mount either so I made an aluminum one.
Over all my wife is very pleased with the way it works, me too.

Disregard the ugly green rad hose it's gone as is the P/S pump, got EPAS now.

Or, convert to Fox era serpentine belt and use the Fox compressor, which is a good design. Parts are both cheap used and reproduced, including all mounting hardware. That's my plan. I even got an adapter to allow me to use my Saginaw PS pump in a Fox bracket. This is going to solve several issues for me: alternator squeal, desire for a single belt, and a factory style installation. Just another thought.

I will be using the fox compressor and serpentine on my truck. I have Vintage Air in my 66, and am not too pleased with its cooling capabilities. The heat and defrost work great with electronic control. I like the infinitely adjustable fan speed. It just won’t blow cold enough air to suit me. Will Likely go with s different brand of unit mated with the fox compressor.
I am watching your thread on the 67, because my 68 Shelby original unit is missing some parts. Will likely replace the in-dash Unit with a modern one.

The Fox compressors can typically be found for less than $100 used, and if so inclined can be rebuilt for about $36 worth of parts (try Century Auto Air at www.shopcenturyautoair.com). The compressor is a Nippondenso 6P148A, and there's a sticker on it that will say that. These were R-12 systems originally, but can easily be converted to R-134a. Rebuilding the compressor allows you to completely remove all the old oil and and reassemble it with R-134a compatible oil (I use PAG). You can also change the charging ports to R-134a size to avoid having to use unsightly adapter fittings. LMR stocks the R-134a ones, among other parts houses. You will need a special tool to remove the clutch, but I simply got one through the free rental at the local parts store.
The 6P148A is a good, simple design that uses only about 5 HP to operate compared to the old compressors that could soak up 20-25.

I just ordered the A/C kit from Classic Auto Air. Well actually I ordered it via Jeggs. Classic wanted $1524 with $87 shipping. Jeggs wanted $1524 with free shipping and I also found a SANTA coupon for $100 off. Total with tax is $1488. I also ordered an new aluminum radiator from
I'll start with the above mentioned orders and see where it takes me. I know more $$$ are needed to install it to my satisfaction.
