Can anyone give me more information on the AOD transmission governor valve.
I have a 65 coupe with a 302 and a 1989 AOD I had the transmission rebuilt locally and have been running it for over a year the transmission is shifting fine up and down my only problem is that it is shifting to early low engine RPM so it seems like the car is not in the correct gear for power
I’ve been doing a lot of reading on shift points of the a AOD and found out that the Weight and spring pressure of the governor valve will affect shift points
I found and installed a high Rev kit from trans go It came with a stiffer spring and a lighter governor valve it definitely changed the shift points but now I believe the valve was too light because I’m not shifting through the gears until I get almost 4500 rpm’s Which I think is too high for my stock rebuild 302
Does anyone know if anyone out there manufactures the governor valves at different weights and spring tensions to customize the shift points for your car
Or does anyone know of any tricks to modify the governor valve to suit each individual need thanks

The governor will only effect shifting at WOT. If that's your problem then you need to modify the governor. If your part throttle shifts are too high that's another issue that needs to be addressed either with TV adjustment or in the valve body.

I hate to disagree but when I removed the stock governor valve and replaced it with the trans go high rev
It change the shift points dramatically even at cruise speed as well as WOT
So there is some affect on the shift points at cruising speed by changing the valve weight and spring tension

Apparently it does. Full disclosure I've never rebuilt an AOD. I've done E4ODs, TH700R4s, and others, and each trans is a bit different. After some reading it seems the AOD does use the governor for part throttle shifts.
What I didn't see for it was a weight and spring kit. I was able to raise the shift points by 1,000RPM in my TH700R4 just by swapping to different weights from a B&M kits, but I see nothing like that for the AOD. You could of course remove material from the weights, but do that carefully because its going to be a lot harder to put it back if you go too far.
