BACK and Better than Ever!!! Sold my Driver 69, Bought a 68 RESTORED

Hi All, im finally back and after 14yrs of owning my 69FB Mach Clone, it did sell (not for top dollar) and I grabbed a 68 FB J code fully restored except some interior nonsense....

So no more Inquiries on my 14yr old creaking suspension and god awful car fumes entering my car, she runs, drives and feels like it came off the line in 68!

That being said, Im a little unfamiliar with the 67/68 Gen.  The owner restored the car with a Top loader when the car was a automatic.  He did not have the time or car to convert/swap out the center console. So my questions lie with that to start!

I know the are different from 67 to 68 but Id like to know if I can :
-Use 67 parts on the 68 (for example simply modify the 67 brushed metal into the 68 padded nonsense therefore converting the 68 Auto in to a Manual?)
-Can I purchase a 68 Padded insert that simply removes the auto section to make it Manual (would be easiest approach)
-anyone know what colour and brand paint/dye matches the Red Interior Best??? (fyi shes black on the outside and factory 68 red on the inside)

Many Thanks and looking forward to our new and improved times together

Congrats on the new ride!  You and I will be learning all the unique stuff about 67-68 cars together, since I just got my 68 recently, and I have never really done much to that body style.
I bet someone on the forum has the information you need.

Paint, try a can of this for colour match.

NPD also has some.

Console, looks like they're made of unobtanium, but the top plate is the same as a non XR7 Cougar

Re: BACK and Better than Ever!!! Sold my Driver 69, Bought a 68 RESTORED

67-68 consoles are not the same. The 67 is reproduced not so the padded 68. I have seen 67 consoles put into 68’s, they will fit. Both need to be scalloped to fit over the convertible “saddle” if the car has one. I have seen saddles put into coupes and fastbacks for added ridgidity.
There are two 67 shifter trim plates, manual and auto, both available aftermarket. The 68 needs a full trim plate , auto or manual, not reproduced.
The 67 was brushed aluminum the 68 camera case.
The two years parts are not interchangeable. The seat belt pockets are outboard on the 67, inboard on the 68.
That’s all I can add right now unless my memory is prodded at bit further.

Not without a lot of butchering, certainly not plug and play. Lot of guys are building their consoles, check out the VMF forums.
