    Water shields adhesive?

    I make my own water shields from polyethylene sheet and hold them in place with a household caulking, it sticks but I'd like something better. 
    So, i'm looking for a stickier type of caulking or removeble adhesive to hold water shields in place.
     What do you use?

    The original ones were a type of tar paper, I kept a new set of NOS ones and use them for a pattern.

    Look up acoustical sealing caulk, comes in a tube like regular caulk, but never hardens. Windshield sealing caulk doesn’t set either, but that stuff gets into everything just like anti-seize.

    I use normal rtv gasket sealant.

    Me too...works great.  Shield can be pulled loose if access to the door innards is necessary and then re-stuck.

    That might be OK if you never have to take the water shields off again. I have had mine on and off many times, can't imagine what kind of nightmare involved removeing the stuff from all the surfaces where the shields are stuck on to.

    I was debating on installing the sound deadener on my door underneath the door panel.  My car doesn't see
     a lot of rain and couple washes a year.   Anyone do this?

    The plastic shields pull loose from the rtv fairly easily. Then a single edge razor blade removes the remainder from the door in a single pass.  And it is not sticky or gooey in the process.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

     I did that.........sorta!
    I bought the peel & stick stuff from Home Depot and used that. I cover ALL holes and access holes. Makes for a quieter ride and the doors close with a nice "thuunk" vs the tinny/hollow sound when using the plastic water shield. (I think!) Since its a rubber type sheet it does BOTH jobs......water barrier and sound surpressor.
