Let there be light.

I replaced my old fluorescent shop lights with 8 new 4 foot led units. It’s almost like being out in the daylight compared to the old lights that had a mishmash or cool white, warm white, daylight 40 watt bulbs.

Re: Let there be light.

Looks good. I did the very same thing in my shop and my father's garage. Purchased the lights at Costco...money well spent..

Re: Let there be light.

I got two four packs from Amazon free delivery.
Now I'll be able to see without dragging a trouble light around on the latest project of replacing all of the hydraulic power top components.
For some reason Ford did not intend for the cylinders and pump to last 50 years.

Re: Let there be light.

Hey Rudi, did you build those cabinets with the sliding masonite doors?  Look just like what I've built for three or four garages and shops.

Re: Let there be light.

I am getting ready to buy lights for the new shop.  Let me know exactly what you guys bought.  Will be 100% LED.
For 26’ wide x 30’  long garage with 12’ ceiling.  How many lights did you use per hundred sq ft?

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Let there be light.

My shop still has 8' florescent tubes in a great daylight color. The garage has been retrofitted with the Costco 4' jobbers as they come on sale for $20. Nice to have the lights come on when below freezing in the garage.

Yes Bob I built all the cabinets and work benches with drawers, mostly out of MDF,  about 30 years ago.

Re: Let there be light.

Steve, my shop is 24x 24 with a 9 foot ceiling. Four Led lights at over the work bench far wall and four of them slung on two cables from wall to wall so that they can be slid along the cable if needed. I also have a twin tube 4 foot flourescent over my lathe and the same over a work bench area.
My shop is attached to the house, I walk out of the family room and I’m in the shop. It also has a full second floor with elevator access.
The lights themselves are from Amazon, 4 are a make called Hyperikon 3800 lumens 4000k the other 4 are Antlux,  4000 lumens 5000K . The closer you get to 6000K the more they are like sunlight.
To tell the truth I can’t tell the light output or brightness difference between each brand.

Re: Let there be light.

Changed out for LEDs about a year ago...great $ spent. Cept they make a lot of EMI radio noise. Only get 3 stations now.  Get the good ones if you looking at changing.

Henry, none of the units I got bother the FM station I listen to, I have heard that led’s do have that issue.

Re: Let there be light.

Rudi   I was just going to say that about the garage radio as I replace more lights.  Maybe having outside antenna would help. I'm sure my metal siding isn't helping.
