Chasing down a vibration in my 65 coupe 302 engine AOD transmission
Measuring the driveline angles need some advice on measuring the angle of the universal in the rear end if I rotate the rear end yolk and get the measurement from the flat surface on the bottom of the yolk I’m getting up 6.4° But if I measure from the universal joint and I’m getting up 2.4
Just wondering if anyone knows which of those two measurements I should use I took a level and verified that the yolk of the rear end is pointing up towards the transmission and I used Spicer’s Driveline calculation chart And according to my measurements either way the angle on the rear end driveshaft is way out of line
My measurements are
Crankshaft Pulley 3.4° down
Drive shaft 1.8° down
Once I figure out the actual rear end number I can make my adjustments accordingly thanks

Best place is across the flat surface on the yoke where the u-bolt holes are. Be sure your measuring device is vertical.
Engine down 3.4 sounds about right if using an aftermarket crossmember that relocates the tranny down a bit.
If rear end points upward at least two degrees, you should be ok. Some will say to make them equal, but under hard forces of high speed or hard launch, the rear end will rotate upward a couple of degrees, equaling things out at the times when it matters most.

Thanks Steve I’m getting so much information looking on the web trying to find the proper angles to make the driveshaft in the universal joints happy if you look at Spicer‘s calculation chart they’re saying each joint should be No less than 0.5 and no more than 1.5° if I use the calculator with my measurements now my pinnion joint is at 4.3° up which puts me over their specs I believe my vibration may be coming from that joint just want to be sure before I make any changes

Tapered shims are cheap and easy. Then fix it properly if you find an angle that works better.

Just an FYI.....Tremec Tool Box is a smart phone app that allows you to use a smart phone to determine the angles on the tranny, drive shaft, and the rear end then gives you a pass fail rating. If you're good, you're good. If its not good, the app won't tell you how to fix it!!
