Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

With my Holley fried through and through with remnants of rubber fuel line that it deeply ingested, I’ve decided to go EFI.  I have all of the major pieces sitting around from a previously-planned 427 kit car (that didn’t happen).  I’ll even call on some help from some FYI board folks from around Dallas. So really !, what could possibly go wrong???

Spring Break is coming. I’ll do some track days in Dallas and Austin. Otherwise, it’s major surgery time for the Keith Craft 331.  I’ll document it all right here.

(Yes, MS has already told me: avoid any more rubber, use steel lines.  He was first to START the insults, so the door is wide open for more.)

I have been very happy with my two efi swaps.  Both are stock systems  in Classics. One 5.0 one 4.6.

Re: Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

I remember looking at the Redline management a while ago. For the time, it was pretty advanced.
Have you worked with Redline before now?

Re: Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

Good question and one that I often ask myself. Redline was the cat’s meow for more than a decade. It is now being superseded by the new MS3-Pro computers. Technology keeps advancing...

My Redline computer was ordered and initially set up (tuned) at the factory specifically for my 331. So, should shorten the learning curve. (Note strong use of the word “should” in that statement)

Also, EFI cams can’t have a lope, so the grind is very specific for my setup. Yes, new cam in box.

Test-fit a TWM unit back in 2012. My son, now a college freshman, thought it was "bad -oh no I used a word I shouldn't have-".

Good luck with it. No insults from me ... been there myself. If I can't use steel, I use teflon hose and AN fittings.

Re: Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

I was careful to not be insulting about the efi. I was careful to be encouraging, only noting the efi system will also be rendered inop by trash circulating in the system.  The hint was the efi and carb systems will both be equally ineffective if a deteriorating gas line is left in the system.

I could not care less if anyone wants to use efi on their car!  I just prefer mine with a period-correct carb!

Re: Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

ACTUALLY, if that eight stack thing works out favorably, that could be one really neat setup.  It looks “vintage enough” that I could stand to look at one on my 427.   So, Prof, keep us informed about how it works out.

Re: Carb to EFI on 331 (5.0) build thread

Looks like Webers, which are supposedly a nightmare to get set up properly.
Me, I still like a set of 3 deuces for looks.

The 8 stack Weber look is awesome.  If I ever get around to that 445 FE stroker that's what I want on top of it.
