Someone asked for pics.
Rear axle assembly is 1” wider than stock, by 1/2” per side.
17x8” wheels with 5.72” backspacing. (1994-2004 Bullitt)
245x45/17 Nitto

This size tire has never rubbed on this setup, but these do. Now I am concerned about further massaging the quarter panel lip and screwing up paint and bodywork. The rub occurs about 2” above the rocker panel stripes.

Well that sucks. But they are a cool looking tire

Really nice looking tire Steve. They look like they would handle wet weather well.
But how can tires differ like what you are showing?
Love your shop by the way! No laying on a cold floor and hurting your shoulders and back in a shop like that...

Because the only dimensions that are the same from manufacturer to manufacturer on a numerically sized tire are the wheel diameter and width. Somehow all the other dimensions vary for a 245/45-17 tire based on the brand.

Also, the new rear end built by Currie that I installed turned out to be 1/4" wider overall than my specified dimensions.. JUST ENOUGH to make that darned tire rub on the front of the quarter panel.

Very nice Steve.
I like ‘em!
Can you just remove the stripes to stop rubbing?
JK
Could you turn axle flanges 1/8” to get your 1/4” back?
May have to shim calipers 1/8” inboard as well.
Just brainstorming.
Looks great!
And in BB2’s drawing, when I refer to my tires running narrow...a 235 = 9.25”....on my Pirelli’s 235 = 9.0”.
So much for having “standards” on tire sizes...almost like shoes and dresses for the ladies.
Guess ya could say they’re shoes for the pony. 😁

What a headache... What will you do?
Do they grip well in the wet?

Does this mean you send the housing back to them so they can make it the correct dimension??

So, your rear end has been screwed twice, once by Currie and once by Strange? think I would be inclined to send the housing back to them. What a PITA.

DITTO! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I'm sure it weren't cheap, least they could do is get the dimensions right while they were building a noisy rear!! Grrrrr!

It is in the car to stay. Too much work to do over! Currie built the housing. Strange built the noisy differential. Diff was sent back to Strange. They will look at it.
Nittos are awesome. Alot better traction and the car seems more stable on long sweeping corners. Must be that wider rear axle...
