MS brake brackets on Versailles Moser axles - question about install

I've got Moser 31 spline axles and looking at the instructions I see the the MS brackets go on first with the recessed cut facing in towards the center of the housing.  The bearing goes on, then the retainer then the seal.
The questions I have are:

The bearing is a little smaller than the cut on the MS brackets, not sure if that makes a difference?
The original Versailles set up used 2 oil seals, is it correct that this new set up uses just the one seal in the axle tube?

The bearing kit I have is a Timken Set20, it doesn't look like the pictures in the instructions. I just want to make sure I've got this right. Thanks

Re: MS brake brackets on Versailles Moser axles - question about install

The bearings I use are the ballbearing 3.150” diameter like most  9” Ford used.
The versailles had two types. The brackets are designed to fit a bearing that protrudes from the axle housing 0.150”.   Either style bearing should fit, but I have more confidence in the sealed ballbearing style, using one seal installed into the axle housing prior to the bearing and axle being installed.

Be sure to trial assemble brackets to the housing before pressing bearings to be certain you have them on the correct side. The MS brackets have three sets of holes and one of them requires the brackets to go on the opposite side of the car.   Once you are sure, slide the brackets on the axle and press the bearings and retainers on.

Re: MS brake brackets on Versailles Moser axles - question about install

Thanks for the clarification.  For the Versailles rear end there was an axle gasket and an axle flange gasket, I assume it's ok to install the flange gasket between your bracket and the housing?

Re: MS brake brackets on Versailles Moser axles - question about install

Yes, it is OK, but I have never seen any reason to put that gasket there.  Any grease leaking from the bearing would eventually puddle deep enough to run out the gap between the brake bracket and the axle anyway.  All you need is the seal inside the housing and the sealed bearing.  The rest can just bolt together.

I also figure a gasket is a good way to have a point of failure between the brake bracket and the axle housing.  If it gets soft, the brake bracket is then LOOSE.  I think best to just bolt it up metal to metal.
