    Holley carb must

    There has been a bit of talk here lately on carbs so I thought I'd add this.
    If you have a Holley carb you need this.
     I used it in it's entirety about 15 years ago when I bought a Street Avenger 670 for my 331. It is a long read but well worth the education.
    Once it's set up you will have an easy starting engine  with the proper three stages of idle, considering  all other engine parameters are  as they should be.
     I can honestly say my carb has not been touched since.
     No reason why you can't do the same.

    hopefully I can find it when I need it.😂

    My wife‘s ‘79 F150 has an off-road Holley, I know it runs rich for off road applications.
    It came with the truck with a Offy 4 barrel intake as well (300 ci).
    I might even try rebuilding the old one off the Mustang with this new resource.

    I'm guessing that's on a 6 cylinder Nos681.  We used that setup on a couple Jeeps over the years.  It was a 390cfm 4 barrel I believe.  They are set up fat because otherwise they will run out of fuel on a hill climb.  I found that if I just bumped the idle speed to like 1,500 on my CJ5 with the stock 1 barrel it did the same thing.  Some guys use a hand throttle to prevent the throttle plate from slamming shut when their foot bounces off the pedal, which would usually stall the engine.  Few things are as hairy as sliding backwards down a hill that's extremely steep with trees on either side of you.

    Straight 6, 4 speed, 4x4 with 285/75/16 for now.

    About the only hill climbing this thing will see is the single track dirt/gravel road into her family’s camp.
    It’s a cruiser...just a summer toy for her.
    It’s not perfect, still fun.
    She loves her Flowmaster...single 3”
    I know she can’t wait to start driving it for summer.

    Good looking truck!  They are tough and dependable, even when lifted.  A lot of guys in our old 4x4 club ran those trucks or Broncos from the same generation.  Our most colorful member stenciled is tailgate with the words "Jeeps are like tampons every $%^&y needs one".  We all ran fullsize rigs.  I always had a Jeep too, but only ran it around the farm and woods by my place.  Good times.

    Way back when, I put the 331 in the 68,  Pep Boyz had a super deal on a 670 Street avenger, vacuum secondaries.
    I mounted it on the Performer RPM manifold and it ran ok but with some minor idle and hesitation issues.
    I used this manual to make adjustments and changes to the carb. I won’t go into detail here on exactly what I change because every set is different and also mostly, I don’t remember.

    Since that time I put a lot of miles and many full two and three day trips with the car. I can truthfully say I have not touched the carb since then, honestly, never.  Also Ihave not encountered the “ so called dreaded, going out of tune”  syndrome perpetrated on Holley carbs.
    Oh yeah, no off roading involved at any time. 

    I have no hot or cold starting issues.
    The way I have it set is, cold, two pumps of the gas pedal to the floor, the engine starts on fast idle, about 1200 revs.
    After a minute or less a tap on the pedal, the rpm drops to mid point idle of around 1000.
    Once the engine warms up a bit an other tap of the pedal and it goes to regular idle around 700 rpm.
    When hot,  I push down the loud pedal about a third  and get an instant start.
    With A/C on I get about a 50 rpm drop

    I do hope any one here with a Holley gets the same results as I have .

    The truck runs good, I know it can run better.
    Haven’t done much to it since we bought it three years ago...on April 1st😁
    Just tune up, oil change, tires and exhaust.
    Looks like I...I mean “we” may have time to tune the Holley this year.
