Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

Axle Dust shield they'd be willing to part with?  My son has been looking for one for installing the axle in his 68 Mustang.  There at the junk yard he says but you have to pull the axle to get at it to remove the shield.

Thanks

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

I don’t see an axle dust shield above the rear axle on this one.

I can see exhaust shields and some kind of drive tunnel shield in center...under rear floor board(4 door model) and one exhaust shield over axle on passenger side.

We got about 4-6” snow last night. Thought spring was here.

Any possible pictures or drawings?
Perhaps I’m looking at wrong parts according to your description.

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

I think Steve means the dirt/mud/water shield over the rotor.

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

🙄 Duh

I haven’t taken it apart yet.
And it’s snowed in still.
Don’t know how much of a rush he would need it.

Just looked at them,
pretty sad shape with salt used here in Upper Peninsula and lower Michigan.

Might have better luck from a southern vehicle.
I tried.

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

Steve;  I gave away an Exp. rear end last year and the guy just narrowed it and stuffed it under a 64 Valiant Wagon.  E recall that the shields were pretty badly bent on that one...bone yard wheels off deal but they can be body-worked.  At least the ones on the Heap were.  They also had been bent but I went to work on them with a BFH and you can't tell now.  I'll be seeing that guy tomorrow I think and will see if he used them, I'm betting not.

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

They have the backing plate for the e-brake in them, right?  I think they are still available aftermarket, repro, or maybe even Ford.  Dorman is one source to try.  Frankly, with how they rust out I wouldn't mess with used ones at this point.  The ones on my '06 F250 already failed and had to be replaced.

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

Good call , Tom.  Took a quick Google and they are available everywhere...$25 to $35.  Can't ship or repair for that.

BB!

Re: Anyone have a extra Ford Explorer

Thanks Guys!  I did see a pair on Ebay for a good price.  I think we'll go that route.  Thanks for all the info!
