I have a 1968 Mustang that I going through from the ground up I come to the steering column and needed the lower bushing for the tube I took apart steering column, lots of sand and debris inside but I noticed 4 nylon button's 2 on each side that were worn or missing the part number is CBZ-7212-D. Has anybody ever replaced these nylon buttons, or found a distributor that may have these items for sale? Must these nylon buttons be installed for safety or will the steering column operate property? 1STSTANG

There aren't 4 nylon buttons, there are 2 nylon shear pins/dowels. They're designed to break so that the column can collapse in the event of an accident. They can also break just from dropping the shaft on its end. If your upper and lower column is still locked together, there's no need to replace them. No idea where you would get them.

I know the Hillman parts boxes in hardware stores carry nylon (white plastic) fasteners.
Bolts, nuts, washers, and bushings (standoffs).
They come in a variety of sizes and lengths as well.
Some electric supply stores may carry that stuff for mounting electrical insulation boards.
Should be available online as well.
Barry, do you have a close up bushing

Dan's idea of a nylon bolt of the correct diameter is a good one.
Dan, sorry, I don't.

As long as the nylon shears at the correct force.
Maybe some cheap chicom nylon

There are grades of Nylon. I don't think I'd trust this to offshore made stuff of unknown grading.
If those parts were part of an assembly I'd bet money they were never available separately. If worn out your best option is good used. If serviceable just use what you've got. If neither options works you could probably have new ones made. There are plenty of machine shops that work with Nylon. You may even be able to have them 3D printed. I know there is Nylon filament for 3D printers. BUT, I would consult with someone with the engineering expertise to verify that the new parts are going to work like the old.

Most hardware stores will have something like these.
My area “Hillman” is supplier at Ace, True Value, and grocery stores...yeah grocery.
Yep, pick up some steaks and some grade 8 hardware all at the same time.
Depending on store, you can also find small prepackaged units as well.
So you’re not just paying per piece....ie 2/pkg, 5/pkg, 10/pkg,
