Installed in my 1969 Mustang Fastback and they look great but they sit about 1" higher because of the extra seat foam. So my head hits the headliner. Pretty annoying for sure! Im 6' 1" I seen these 2" seat extenders on ebay which would move the seat back. Im not sure if they would help with head clearance at the roof line. Thought about buying some steel slats and mount the seats where I want it permanently and remove the original adjuster hardware. So looking for suggestions.
Thanks Steve69

I've read that a lot about TMI seats.

Mustangs to fear makes a one piece headliner that is supposed to give a bit more head room.
Moving the seat back with simple weld on brackets might also help.
Tomorrow I’ll post a couple of pictures on how to do it.
, I’m going to bed right now.

I have an MTF headliner and out does give you an extra couple of inches. But you shouldn't have to spend $500 for a new headliner cuz the new seat foams are oversized.

Usually moving the seat position back will get you a bit more headroom.
OK, i'm 6'3" nowadays, so head and leg room is always an issue, in any vehicle. Convertibles have more seat to top measurements than hard top cars, see my licence plate.
My current seats are from a 94 Mustang, all manual. I stripped all of the risers so only the tracks remained, the 94 tracks have at least 2-3 inches more travel, I wanted more. You can do this to your stock tracks after cutting off the original mounting bolts.
I used 1/4"x 1" flat stock for the extenders. You can make them to any length you need depending on how much travel you want. Remember to keep the hole spacing the same as the original.
Mine used grade 8 bolts that I chucked in a lathe and turned a "tit" on the ends so the nuts self align easier when your on the creeper under the car.
Less costly than 70 bucks for e-bay ones.

Thanks for the info guys and the pics Rudi! I did see that MTF headliner and BB is correct I don't want to spend $500 on a seat problem. I think Ill see what I can come up with before I spend the $ on the extenders. Rudi gave me some good ideas on extending the original adjusters. Thanks Again! Steve69

When we re-did the floors in the 66, we cut down the seat risers. Lowered them about 1.5 inches. You need to strip the interior and cut, grind and weld when taking that approach....
Your seats look real nice, Steve. Good job!

I had everything tore out and put in sound proofing matting. I wish I would of known prior about cutting the seat risers. I thought it was more of a issue in the earlier Mustangs. I think Ill make some extenders see how it feels. Thanks on the seats. I took off the old covers and cleaned all the rust and crud off the old seat springs. Had a lady that does upholstery install the covers for me.

Looks great Steve. From what I've seen and my own experience, TMI turns out a very nice product.

I'm very happy with my TMI seats. Much more comfortable, safer, and better looking that the stockers.

Looks great. I am waiting for my TMI upholstery to arrive. I ordered it about 3 weeks ago before all hell broke lose and it was supposed to be here this week, but haven't heard a word about the ETA.

OK I hope these help, Stock 65 coupe, TMI seats and the seat bracket they said I needed to install them. I am 6' and I dont have them laying down. I hope this helps. I think the seats may have broken in and gave me an extra 1/2" or my butt got flater from driving. They are also all the way back and on the rear mounting hole that gives you about 2" more to the rear. On the third pic you will see a 1/8" spacer on the top of the front tracks because I felt the matrial was going to snag on the tracks over time so that bumped them up 1/8" more that the adapter does.

Those are some really nice looking seats!
I installed the TMI Sport R seat covers and foam in my 67. They looked fabulous, but they made me sit way too high. Everybody said "Get a MTF headliner". That would have given me the headroom, but I still would have to stoop down to see out the windshield or side windows.
I ditched the TMI seats and went with 2011 Mustang seats. Much happier I am.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like it gave you more room between the seat and steering wheel too. I have about 1" between my upper legs and steering wheel. Thanks Again!

Well, almost on cue... after I posted this last night I received an email saying that the expected ship date has now been delayed until 5/15. I guess it's not the end of the world as it will be warmer and sunnier which will help getting the covers on.

A update on the seats. I bought the 2" seat extenders since my son has my welder and Im not a great welder anyway. So I installed the extenders and they gave me more leg room but my head still hit the headliner. I think they raised the seat another 1/2" So I said screw it and pulled off the seat adjuster tracks. I drilled a couple of holes on the 2" extenders and mounted them directly to the seats. Now there perfect. I have the leg and head room. I figure no one else will be driving my car anyway and I dont use the back seat since the kids have grown up. So I plan on doing the same on the passenger side seat. Ill keep the seat adjusters if I sell the car down the road for the new owner. Thanks for the help! Steve69

Something to ponder. The seats will break in and I have noticed that after brake in they sit lower .
