Installing the lower bushing on a collapsible steering column on a 68

I have rebuilt collapsible steering column on a 68 Mustang,  I also purchased the lower bushing for the column from Mustang Steve.com trying to install the bushing there is three indentations that I either need to be ground out or pounded out so the bushing will slide into the outer tube. any comments on the best way to tackle this ?

Re: Installing the lower bushing on a collapsible steering column on a 68

I'm certainly not expert at anything but I have to ask...why?  Why are you installing the support bushing in a 68 column?  That column worked with a rag-joint steering box from the factory and no support bushing.  The one I put in our 66 showed no signs of bad stuff without it.  When I installed the Borg Box I just aligned the column with the joint half on the steering box and clamped it down.  No apparent problems, no binding,   Just sayin'.

Yeah BB, my understanding was that the lower bushing was for columns that came in cars with a steering box that had the integral steering shaft.  Once they used the rag joint you shouldn't need to do that.
