I recently got a gasket set for a 351. It came with 24 valve stem seals. 8 black ones, 8 orange ones and 8 blue ones. They are all just a little bit different besides color. Obviously one color is for exhaust and one is for the intake side but I don't know which one is for which. anyone dealt with this before?

I have done further research and the black one is the exhaust but I am not sure if I should use the orange one or the blue one for the intake valves.

Ford performance sells colored valve stem seals. Black ones for intake, the Orange ones for exhaust. M-6571-A50.

Does the 351 have larger valve stems on the intake or exh. and do 8 of the seals look like they are for a larger dia. stem?

I looked at the seals this afternoon and to the eye the look to be the same valve stem size. The 351 was sporting E7TE heads from the factory with 1.78 I and 1.45 E valves so it should be stock valves just like on the 302s.

Valve stems all same dia on sbf

What manufacturer and kit number?
Is there a difference in size for the boss on head side of seal?

You could call Felpro tech support line and ask - 800 325-8886.
Just a factoid for what it's worth - When I bought the Ford Performance seals Greg B references I had to call Ford Performance to find out that the orange ones go on the exhaust.

I went through the same BS with valve seals....what the Hexx is the big secret? What...they couldn't print a four of five word lable? Jeezze!

Fel-pro made this way harder than it had to be. The directions that came with the kit show drawings of the seals and based on the drawings it looks sort of like the black ones are for the exhaust and the blue and orange ones are for the intake. That is why I said above:

However when I called fel-pro, after being on hold for 1/2 hour the guy I talked to pulled up the part numbers for all three seal types in the kit and looked at their application. Contrary to the paperwork that came with the kit the black ones are for the intake valves and the orange ones are for the exhaust based on my application of a 95 F150. I confirmed this by going to rockauto and pulling up the the part numbers they have listed for just the valve seals and their listings show the black ones for the intake and the orange ones for the exhaust. What a pain!!

Could ya post part numbers to color for future reference?
I remember when FelPro used to have a breakdown of part and part number on kits.
Guess they just got lazy about it.

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
