1966 Mustang Coupe, 1988 5.0 HO Swap, T5z
I want to remove the oil pan to inspect for any damage and try and identify a small oil leak.
So is there a way to do this WITHOUT taking apart the entire steering linkage? I have all the bolts off, but the steering linkage cross bar that runs directly underneath the oil pan prevents the pan from dropping low enough to remove the oil pan.
I see a lot of talk about lifting the engine making it seem like it's a piece of cake. I don't have an engine hoist, and following a 20 step guide to lifting the engine from the bottom does not sound easy
Is there a simple way to do this? Thanks

Unbolt the two bolts holding the idler arm to the frame. Toe both wheels out as far as they can be steered. The linkage should drop down low enough to remove the crossmember, then the pan.

This sound promising. Just from feel I only need like an inch or two. I'll give this a shot.

Just a FYI. The two large rear bolts on the pan, don't go into blind holes ... they need thread sealant.

Mustang Steve your name is well earned. I was about to order a engine hoist just to remove the oil pan.
Don't know if we'll ever cross paths in person but if we do drinks are on me.

Just remembered another tip. If the pan gets wedged and won’t come out, use a 15/16” socket to turn the crank by hand. It will move the crank counterweights and let the pan drop off.
