A/C Fill

After a few short test drives to make sure I had no leaks of any kind I decided it was time to fill the AC system. The system has been under vacuum for several months so I suspected no leaks. I evacuated the system again while the engine got up to temp and then started the fill.

I have never filled a R134A system before. My experience has been with R12 out of 30lb bottles. The manual for the A/C calls for 24oz of 134A and that it must be filled by an experience AC technician. Bwahahaha!

It took awhile as the cans get cold and pressure drops. Close the can, let it warm up on the intake manifold and repeat about 6 times per can and they were empty. I did not time the process but it took 45 minutes or so.  It blow cold air too!

A 20 minute test drive ensued and it everything checks out OK. Engine temp is the same going up hills, down hills and idling for extended periods

I am ready for a road trip!

Re: A/C Fill

Very happy to hear all this, Gary.  I'm just now diving into my EFI re-calibrate...hope all goes as well here.  No matter what though, I think we are ready for a road trip...soon as they open the roads.

I mentioned a road trip to Carolyn and her reply was "We have to go see RPM". There you have it, a mini bash in Bakersfield, CA.

On another note here is the temp coming out of the vents on this day.

and the semi finished product.

Re: A/C Fill

Good Job!  I filled mine for the first time last year.  Seemed like I had to shake the can a bit to get all the Freon out them.   I might add another can this summer.

That thing will freeze the balls off a pool table!!! I’m jealous too.... I couldn’t get mine to go that low, but I think I had a higher ambient temperature.
