Brake and turn signal issues

I Need some help as electrical is not my strong suit.  Right rear brake and turn lights do not work, however park light does.  Is this likely a grounding issue with the right side or possibly a bad column switch?  all other park and signal/brake lights work fine.

Any help and tips to trace would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony

Re: Brake and turn signal issues

Check the easy stuff first. Start by checking the bulb as there are two filaments in that little glass housing.

Re: Brake and turn signal issues

Sorry.  It's a late 1965 and already checked bulb with a fresh one and no joy.

Re: Brake and turn signal issues

I understand that the 65's socket is not very robust. With the bulb out check to see if you have power the both pins in the socket. I would use a test light for this but a VOM would work also.

Re: Brake and turn signal issues

Its time again!.........Check some other things butt it sure sounds like signal switch replacement time.  Don't........waste your time or money on anything butt an 'original' FoMoCo switch. (don't axe me how I know!) Expensive-yes butt-well worth it.

Ditto what 6sally6 said.

rub the lead contacts on both the bulb and the socket with a pencil eraser.  Erasers are rough enough to remove any corrosion.  Just in case, verify there is a metal to metal contact between the light bucket and the body panel.  A very small contact area is all that is required.  Sand off the paint about 1/16" around one mounting hole.  The screws normally do the grounding, but why not make just a small addition to make sure.

Re: Brake and turn signal issues

I would get a test light if you don't have one. The kind with a ground clip and a point to stab the wire. Turn on your parking lights, go to your right rear light inside the trunk. Find a good clean ground to clip your test light to. Take the parking light bulb out of the socket. Stab the black wire going to the light. The test light should light. This is the parking light, we are just proving the test light works Now stab the orange/black wire and have someone push the brake. If the test light, lights up, the problem is in the back socket. If it doesn't light problem is probably in the turn switch or maybe a broken wire going to the back.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.
