so I pulled out the steering wheel because my turn switch wasn't canceling..low and behold it was missing the cancel cam thing with 2 bumps that actually cancels out the switch after you complete your turn..it pops right on the back of the steering wheel...anyway couldn't find one anywhere but luckily found someone that had one he was willing to separate from a wheel he was selling..anyway I got it on put the wheel back on also even fixed my horn which was a bonus!!..so its all together and it works...only think is when I turn the wheel left a couple times it seems its contacting the plactic on the turn signal swich..its rather annoying...im sure trial and error will fix this..have any of youdealt with this?..and if so how quickly did you resolve it and how?

I feel kinda left out when y'all talk about tern signal problems. There not much original on my 66 but the turn signal switch is. Workin like new, nothing to add just wanted to brag. It will probably die next time out.

I replaced mine twice over the years with new Ford switch/harness that I had to repin into the existing connector block. I can't remember why I had to do it twice, but I think it was because the new switch wouldn't cancel properly. I messed with it, messed with it, got fed up, and replaced it, and problem solved. Maybe I got a bad one first time out? Maybe I made an installation error first time out? Hard to say, this was like 23 years ago at this point. Though I often tend to be overly harsh on my teenage self in hindsight. I actually did some pretty damn good work in the day before you could just Goggle almost anything and find at the very least a picture, if not a Youtube video of how to do it. I certainly made a lot of mistakes, but that's why I know so much now

Be sure the two bumps on the came are pointing to the left when the wheel is straight ahead. Then it should cancel evenly. Lubricate the cam contacts and the horn contacts. Be sure the gap between the steering wheel and the column collar is correct.

im jealous lol

I had mine out because it was hard to put into the lane changing position without going into the turn position. I lubed it with wee-dee 40 and now it sticks in the lane change position. It's a "new Ford unit" that I got back in the early 80's. What is the recommended lube?

I'd use dielectric grease. Maybe white lithium. Thew issue is most greases and lubes contain chemicals that will degrade plastic over time.

This is why I don't put on my steering wheel so tight.

I installed a new aftermarket wheel and it seems to stick some. I don't tighten the nut super tight. Can the horn contacts make it stick. They look flat as pancakes. hard to see in there with the wheel on?

I only use my signals when I absolutely hafta!
If the windows down....I'm stick'in my old flabby arm out to give a signal or.........
I do like the rest of these clodz and just don't give-a-signal!!
I've found that around here......giving a turn signal is a 'sign-of-weakness' anyway.

I thought turn signals were an option on new cars.

I find that people use it as an opportunity to cut you off if they are close enough, so I don't use it. Otherwise if they are further back there is still no need to use it. No need to wear it out.

My signal is telling you that I am going to turn or change lanes, it is not asking for permission.

I still find myself manually “auto cancelling” my turn signals after 20+ years.
It was less than 5 years ago I replaced my broken cam as a winter project.
I find it less frustrating to return it to off in the Mustang, as compared to my work truck with the electronic turn signals.
In the work truck...Light tap gives three blinks, full tap gives continuous blinks.
Sometimes I accidentally hit the stalk while adjusting the wiper speed.
Not a great combo in my book.

No wonder I don't care for new cars. Give me a good old fashioned stalk that moves.

In my experience, finding a good replacement turn signal switch is very difficult. My original Ford one just wore out. Scott Drake replacement was utter trash and kept shorting out. Dennis Carpenter switch works, but cancels out too quickly and the CLICK noise is annoying. I will put up with it for now, but eventually hope to get something better.
