Portable lifts from Bendpak

Does anyone have experience with Bendpak portable lifts.  I am looking at the BL-5000EXT. I would like to hear if anyone has used one or owns one and what they think of it. Any suggestions for another manufacturer would also be welcome. A two post or four post lift just will not work in the space I have available.
Thanks for your help

I came close to buying these just the other day. They would sure make tire rotations easy. What I did not like was the limited access from the side of the car as the stands are in the way.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

Bob, before I bought my lift I used four under-wheel car dollies with two 12" pieces of 6X6 laid transvers on each dollie.  This will get the car to or maybe higher than the 21" you get from that lift.  It's stable, allows access from the sides and each end, and don't cost much.  Plus, you can move the car around if necessary while it's up in the air.  I did all the plumbing and underside re-assembly on the Heap with this setup and it sure beat frame stands.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

I just tried to post a pic but no joy so I texted you a pic of this setup.  My friend used these to install a new exh system in his Camaro.  I had been using 4x4s but he went up to the 6x6s.  Works great but you need a pretty good floor jack to get the front end high enough to get the dollies under the tire.

Hey Bullet Bob....any 'close calls' with the car wanting to roll off the 6 X 6's?  It's sure more stable than cinder blocks (don't axe!).

Here's a pic, Mike.  No rollie.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

I'm glad you posted the photo because you have the wood positioned differently than I was understanding from your description.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

Money and space being unlimited my guess is that a two post asym, a four post and the dual rocker panel lifts should be included in a complete shop.
I have been using the stuff below because of a no lift issue. The big problem is getting down on the floor postioning all that crap.
One of four home made rollers with a 6 ton jack stand being readied for bolt on tabs.

With four of these under the car I can get over 2 feet up off the floor
out
I made this pad that locates into the rad support/strut rod support bracket. With it and the high lift floor jack I have there is ample room under the car to crawl around.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.  I did find a 2 post lift that will work in a garage with 9' ceilings which is what I have. Of course, the project I needed the lift for is done except for some minor clutch adjusting etc. I would like to find a lift that isn't built offshore but for some reason, most don't say where they are built.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

Nice stuff Rudi. I alway like to see how the others tackle a problem.

Bob,

Bendpak is a reputable company. They make good stuff and stand behind it. I don't think you can go wrong with Bendpak.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

Someone makes a portable two-post that will lift the car five feet.  Don't recall who it is but I considered it for a while.  My problem is I only have 3.5 to 4" of mud in the floor and I'm thinking that's not enough.  And, I didn't want to have to cut and pour pads.

Re: Portable lifts from Bendpak

BB, Bendpak is the one that makes the short 2 post lift, the GP-7LPS. It doesn't depend on the concrete thickness to support the vehicle. the upper crossbar where the ram is keeps the vertical posts in place. It will do 58".  I am still considering.
