Head Gasket Leak Hopefully

I started my Borgensen steering installation and noticed a small pool of anti-freeze in the small
Recess below the distributor. I can see a line where it ran down between the head and block. It is a very small amount and I am not noticing being low of coolant. I bet once the aluminum head heats up it expands enough to seal. I may try to watch it and wait it out until fall. Any thoughts?

Re: Head Gasket Leak Hopefully

That is a common spot for coolant to pool on these old gals. I have found that it is usually due to a seep between the H2O pump and the timing cover or the timing cover and the block. Give a quarter turn on the H2O pump bolts and inspect.

Re: Head Gasket Leak Hopefully

S'why I like to use RTV (no gaskets) in that area.  Seems ALL SBF have a little "pool" of coolant there if not.

Re: Head Gasket Leak Hopefully

Check all timing cover and water pump bolts for tightness.

I found several bolts loose, this spring after winter as temperatures warmed up.

Never leaked last year at all.

The air can also blow coolant up and around with turbulence...fingers crossed.

I’ve done this to check, after clean up of all gunk.
Insert some paper towel in socket. Run it, drive it, or let it sit and just monitor. See if coolant gets to the paper towel from top or from below.

Sally, the pool lets ya know you still have coolant.😂
