Got a clunk that seems to be getting worse Transmission?

Don't really know if its Transmission or rear end yet  the clunk/ Thump is getting worse only when Transmission Downshifts (C4) Coming to a stop light
I haven't checked but when I was replacing rear shocks this week U Joints were good?

Anyone had similar issues, I'm going to Look into it this weekend

I Don't know much about these C4 transmissions  P.O had it rebuilt  before I bought car in 2012

Re: Got a clunk that seems to be getting worse Transmission?

First place to look is to recheck the driveshaft u joints.    put the car on jackstands so the rear wheels turn free.

then put the car in neutral and get underneath and work the driveshaft back and forth with your hands.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: Got a clunk that seems to be getting worse Transmission?

Mustang CLUNK is usually rear end related, and is not always a problem that will cause any trouble.

Does it do it when standing still and you put it in reverse?  Check pinion bearing.

Re: Got a clunk that seems to be getting worse Transmission?

Driveline clunks in old cars are usually caused by an accumulation of high side tolerances over the entire drive train.
Loose yokes in the tranny output shaft, u-joints, loose input yoke on the third member, loose bearings, excessive backlash between pinion and ring gear and sloppy fit of the axels in the carrier.
At one time I found a broken spider gear shaft that made one helluva clunk.
Also try draining the rear end lube and check for "Gold Dust"
