Sorry that this is not the right section for this but does anyone have a A9P EEC for sale?
I am in the middle of wiring my engine harness to a Ford Thunderbird EEC when my EEC got run over.
Its not a pretty sight and has halted me getting my car on the road this year. My sister is currently in the US and can bring one over to the UK for me if i can find one. If you know someone who has one, please ask if they would part with it.
Thanks for your support.

You can also sub in an A9L if you have problems finding an A9P, they are *virtually* identical in calibration and will work in place of each other.

The A9L is calibrated for a manual trans, the A9P for an auto, but if you're tuning it anyway the differences are insignificant. There's no transmission controls in the EECIV computers. I'm guessing the ECM pinout is the same, though I've never compared them side by side. There's a neutral switch on the T5, and I'm guessing that the ECM doesn't know whether the signal comes from it or a neutral safety switch.
My advice would be eBay. Expect to pay $250-$300 for a good used one that's reasonable.

Thanks for the info. My car is AOD, or will be once its running.
I did look at ebay but thought I would try here first as i'm worried about buying a Dud!

Edit... it is a manual ecu though

Graham,
If an A9P or A9M will work you should also be okay with an A9M. I have run our car on all three. I'm planning to swap to the 4R70W trans and the W4HO PCM from a 94 Mustang which is an EEC-IV with transmission control. At that point I may.....MAY be interested in selling the A9P but that's a ways off.
Incidentally, according to Michael Ponthieux at the EECDyno Tuning forum you can substitute a T4M0 from a 94 or 95 Mustang if you find one but this swap will require a pinout change and some minor tuning which will require the purchase of a Moates Quarterhorse. ($250) The T4M0 is the 94/95 manual trans ECM and will work fine with the AOD after the above is accomplished.
Good luck,
BB1

Either will work, swapped them around many, many times. There was some dashpot items, but again **either** will work.
Dangit, I knew I should have put a disclaimer in that post that TKO will respond LOL

Here's a reasonable A9L for sale.
I think he's a good seller, has a ton of positive reviews. These computers are also not terribly fragile. I can't remember ever seeing one fail. I'm convinced most "remanufactured" ones are just junkyard ECUs they test and slap a sticker on.
There are some A9Ps on there too, but they are more expensive unless they are "remanufactured". I wouldn't be afraid to get a reman. Like I said, I doubt anything was done to it. These things are sturdy. You'd have to get them wet to screw them up I think.

So I have found one on ebay and he has a harness to go with it. It is an RJM injection harness which is pretty much unused.
I looked at the RJM manual and it says that the TFI should be mounted on the distributor. My TFI is NOT mounted on the distributor. Would that be a problem? I have a connector from the old loom that goes from the TFI to the distributor.

I would just get a Mustang distributor with the TFI mounted on it. Its probably not strictly necessary, but with this kind of stuff I like to have things as close to factory configuration as possible to make troubleshooting easier in the future.

I think it was 92 when the T-bird went to a remote TFI. The mustang did the same in 94. The remote TFI was a common swap to get them away from heat. The RJM harness is for a fox mustang through to 93

Remote mounted and distributor mounted TFI’s are different. The signals are different.
If wiring requires a distributor mounted TFI, that is what will be needed. I’ll look and see if I can the information.
Hate to see you mess up your module or ecm.

Thank you all for the information. The guy that had the ECU and also had the loom has done a deal with me and I have the loom and he gave me his Mustang distributor with the TFI. His block was cracked and he had moved on. So that's good news! He has an ECU as well with these numbers"
8906 1004
E9AF 14A624 AA (GTE).
He said that he has been using it on a stick shift in a Cobra replica but has just found out that its for an auto car. I don't have any reference to control units so could someone be so good as to confirm that?
If so, I can bag that ECU and be well on my way with wiring that matches you guys instead of the Thunderbird loom.
Thanks for all the help.

Should be a 3 digit code in bold on the connector that states the calibration code as well

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
