I'm curious why you think that.
I would never put in a used transmission no matter any kind of transmission. I can agree that the installation probably is smother with the AOD. The 4r70w is longer and wider. We had some bad AOD's not holding up to a stroker motor, it held about 5 minutes. the AOD was built by a known company in the US(hardned shaft etc). Could be bad luck also, but we never got it to work. And parts in Sweden was not easy to find. But of course for you overseas everything is much easier with shops, parts etc so much to choose from. When I had my FMX rebuilt it took 3 weeks to find a shift kit for it here(I probably got the last one). I can agree that the wide ratio gearing sometimes can feel to wide :-)

My understanding is that FMX parts are rather hard to come by here too. I find it amazing you found one at all!

Sounds like I will look for an AOD, Late 80’s, find a good modified valve body to avoid the shifter shuffle. I don’t want to do the electric switch for OD.
Buy a kit for the misc. parts needed to make it all fit.
Find somewhere to get my driveshaft Shortened.
bang my knuckles, says some bad words, get frustrated then celebrate victory and enjoy driving my car again!
thanks everyone, Bearing BoB I moved from California last year. I live in Sarasota Florida now. So if anyone lives near me give me a shoutout.looking for some mustang friends down here!

If the driveshaft is old I'd advise just getting a new one made. Look for places that work on or sell heavy truck parts. I use Associated Truck Parts here in DE. They might be a national chain.

I just had my T-5 yoke installed on my driveshaft by Joint, Clutch and Gear Service. Like TKO said, they are a place that works on and sell heavy truck parts. Not cheap, but quality work.

That’s just up the road from “Big Kahuna’s” new place is it not?
I like like the Lone Star State as well but too many roots in Canuckistan other than maybe spending winters there.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
