    I think my Fuel tank is possessed

    Took my driver car in to fill up the tank and fill up 2  5 gallon cans for my Mustang this morning.  I filled up the Mustang gas tank with the gas cans until it was full in the filler tube. And I so I could watch the gas gauge after each 5 gallons went in.   Put the cap on and shut the filler cap.   Didn't  run anything or start it.  The car sat from the day prior after the running out of gas.  So I walk out to the garage a few hours latter and smell fuel.  Look at the Mustang and its dripping gas.  I pull the cover and fuel is leaking from the cap.  I remove the cap and fuel starts spraying out of the filer tube.  I was like WTF caused this to happen?  So I grabbed my pump and pumped a couple of gallons of fuel out of the tank.  Cleaned up the mess on the floor and rear of the car.  Another one of those  first evers...LOL

    Gasoline in the ground Is colder than ambient, if you fill to the neck it will expand and eventually overflow if not driven to burn some off.
    When driving locally I stop filling at the first kick off, on long trips I fill into the neck.

    I'm remembering Smokey Yunick talking about cooling the fuel with dry ice so they could get more in the tank.  Another innovation that was outlawed once NASCAR caught on.

    Yeah.....and so was the "trick" of plumbing your fuel lines into the roll bar assembly to hold a couple gallons extra!! Ala  Richard Petty I believe!?

    Fuel expands with heat. If full to the neck I would expect it to overflow. The fact that you removed the cap and it sprayed out fuel leads me to believe that your cap vent may be plugged.

       I actually had a non vented cap.  When I had efi I drilled it out for a vent with a very small drill bit.  I think it was dripping from the vent hole.
