Can any of you tell me what color your spring is on your 65-66 power brake switch?
The reason I am asking is because I installed the new switch from MS for the power brakes conversion using the new fox body MC and I have a new disc brake kit on the front. Being flowlowed for 6 miles in town I was told I have no brake lights, but do have turn signals. If you step on the pedal enough to lanch you through the dash you have brake lights. My spring is BLUE and is so much harder to move than my old manual brake switch. Just wondered if maybe the switch was wrong. This also explains why my cruise wont cansel tell I stand on the brakes.

Do you have all the bushings and washers in place?

MS,
Yes everything is just like the book shows. The switch wont even move by hand, and the pedal move only about a 1-1/4 then the car is slowing down nicely, I love the conversion now. I mite be placing my stock manual switch back in so i can have brake lights when I slow. Just seams to be way to stiff??? when the pedal is getting to its limit while under the dash is when you can see the switch start to move.

The spring should be lighter than the original spring was. If not, get with Michael to replace it with power brake switch. Sometimes the factory gets the wrong part in the box.

MS, thank you and I did try to get in touch shortly after I bought it. I will try again. Thanks for the help

Michael has had me and some others trying out a Fox body brake light switch on 65-66ers and I have to say if you have cruise and experience the cruise not shutting down quick enough before the brakes start to grab, then the new Fox body switch is the one to get. You will want to change out the plug too, but that is as easy as installing the switch. Works so good I took my micro switch off. Thank you MS for haveing me reach out to michael. your store and forum are the best

Got a picture? Do they look the same as the 65-66 ones ?

Not a good pic but I can tell you they are almost the same as far as looks. the terminals come directly out of the back. That part is different. I had a micro switch also so I had female flag terminals so I could test. I all ready ordered a Fox wire plug for it off EBay for 10.00

Yeah, I got a batch of power brake light switches that have the blue spring. They should, as best as I can tell, have the "yellow" spring. The supplier or manufacturer must have changed things up on me. I've been ordering the same power brake light switch for ages now.
All of that to say, I'm going to switch, pun intended, over to the Fox body power brake light switch. The added benefit of not only being a softer switch is, like Cab4word67 says, is that the terminals come straight out. This feature also solves the power brake switch from interfering with the steering column tube.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
