So what are these two series of numbers telling me. Is one of these the VIN? I am getting ready to reattach to the door and though it would be easier to take a picture this way.

C = 289, 2V (2bbl), low compression, reg. fuel/hyd lifters
All the rest is the consecutive number assigned on the assembly line

Also...there are places that will stamp you a new repop door tag so you don't have to put an old funky one on your fresh resto. Google it.
