Hi guys,
Would anyone happen to have any experience putting the key slugs for the ignition cylinder back in? I was changing my ignition switch and in an idiot move I was trying to see how the key mechanism worked and dropped it, releasing all the slugs out of the tumbler across the garage floor. After taking a series of deep breathes I spent the next 3 hours searching for all of the slugs, I think I found them all. Contemplating just purchasing a new ignition switch cylinder unless someone has some insight. I hate spending cash because I was clumsy.

Get a new one. We all do booboo's. They are cheap. Those slugs are paired and you need to get them all put right exactly to make it work. That is unless you want to become a locksmith! And, there are only 9 in the photo. you need 10.

Just in case you do buy a new one, buy a couple of new key blanks at the same time. If you don’t also change the door locks, you will need two keys.
But, there is a hack for that.
Take the new key blank and cut one side for the ignition, then the other side for the doors. Add a notch in the handle so you know which is which. This trick also works if you have two cars that use that same type of key. I used to have same key that fit my 70 Mustang and my truck. Just flip it “notch up” for the Mustang. “Notch down” for the truck.

That hack won’t work on my car, the door/trunk key has a different offset than the ignition slot.

Anyone have any recommendations as to where to shop to get something decent? I visited a few sites and the reviews weren't flattering.

Ford typically used ignition and door keyed alike, with just the trunk key an opposite key.
What year is your car where doors and trunk are same? Learning something new here...

Oh, Oh, nothing new to learn here. I have power door and trunk release and have not used either of the keys for years.
My doors and ignition are the same but the trunk is opposite.

This set would let you have one key to fit even the trunk.

You know, if you decide to replace the door locks as well so you keep a matching set of keys, then you could take one of your door cylinders apart to use as a guide for matching up the lugs. After all, you have an assembled lock cylinder with those lugs in each door.

If you have a locksmith near you take it to them. I was charged $10 when I did that to mine.
