Event

Just found out about the Sturgis Mustang Rally.  It's held annually over the Labor Day weekend.  This year it starts on 9/1, runs through 9/6.

Maybe I'll go if I get the heap (TBB1) running reliably.

Nope.  All I know is that it's an old term that I have not used in a long, long time, and that it perfectly fits how I feel about the car right now.

:-)

My dad used it in the '40's and if I recall it was used in some of those '30s movies.  I watch the oldies on TCM.

Re: Event

I checked the filings and I'm pretty sure Bullet Bob has the trademark on "The Heap".

Just saying.

Re: Event

My dad used the term "heap a junk" on a lot of different cars weather he owned them or not, but mostly on us kids cars.

Re: Event

I think we were more partial to the affectionate #@$%box.  "Beater" is another popular one.  Though "heap" is by no means unknown.

Re: Event

Way back in the 70's, or maybe in the 80's there was a car wax commercial on TV...probably for Turtle Wax...where the 17 year old was waxing a '57 Chevy.  The old man come along and says, "where did you get that heap?", and the kid replys, "it's a classic, Dad".
That seemed to fit my feelings about the various old cars I've had over the years...a "heap" of old parts; dirty, worn out, ancient design lovingly massaged and restored in order to keep a "classic" design on the road.

Hope we can all have our heaps in one place again someday.

I remember that commercial!  Thanks for the explanation.  I concur with your sentiment about all being in one place someday.

My favorite "I'm digusted/angry/fed up" derogatory nickname for it is TDC - that da**ed car (usually shortened to DC)

Where can I see this register?

Hey, if I keep the hood closed and one doesn't look too close it still looks like a classic Mustang....sorta.

Re: Event

I don't know BB1, If your going to take and old heap like you got and do what you did (doing) with it, I'd say you made that heap (of stuff) pretty classy.
