dip stick out, oil under the hood

been having an issue with the dip stick for the engine oil being raised a little bit, and oil under the hood and on the alt.. I am considering a road trip in the car Saturday morning about 100 miles each way. engine runs strong, doesn't foul the plugs. suggestions as to what is going on internally on this 302 W.?  car has well over 100K miles on it but was re-ringed and bearings but no valve work done and could that be the issue? car has PCV and a breather on the other valve cover, the manufacture date was 1974. doesn't run hot, even with the air on.

Re: dip stick out, oil under the hood

Worst scenario, engine blow by.
Best scenario, non functioning PCV system.

Re: dip stick out, oil under the hood

Does "smoke" come out of the valvecover/oil fill hole with the cap removed? Change out the PCV valve to see if that helps. Sounds like you have pressure inside the engine where.............with the PCV system you should have a small vacuum.
When did you do the ring-job?
