Seat Buns

Have any of you replaced your own seat buns? (My 13 year old twin boys think its awesome I want to replace my buns).

My passenger seat is still in grate shape, but the drivers side is shot. I'm 5'-8" on my best day with my boots on, and I am setting on the floor it feels like. My seat covers are in fantastic shape, I just need to uncover the bottom and install fresh foam.

I don't want this to explode into a custom seat project, yes they would be nice, but not now.

Re: Seat Buns

This is one of the first projects I did on my 66. My driver's seat was shot.  I did get new buns and covers but I found the driver's side seat pan was broken in several places. I was able to pull it back into shape and weld it. Good luck with your project.

Re: Seat Buns

I believe TMI can sell you the new foam (back and buns).  I completely rebuilt the 87 seats in our Heap with TMI foam and "Pony" upholstery, not a really difficult job and they fit our buns just fine.  There are a few tricks to upholstery butt (TS&T) Google is your friend.

Good luck,

Re: Seat Buns

I replaced mine when I reupholstered my seats. I got everything from Virginia Classic Mustang. The trick is to have the seat covering warm so it easily stretches over the frame.

Re: Seat Buns

When I first got my car back in 1996 the first thing I did was switch from the Parchment interior to black.
I got new buns and seat covers from TMI nad went through a learning curve doing the passenger seat. After that the rest went easy.  I returned to the  pass seat and fixed some of the issues from what I learned doing the previous.

Re: Seat Buns

To firm up the springs before adding the new foam, I used a piece of office carpet to go on top of the seat springs.  It really firmed things up.  You will find remnants of the original burlap cloth under the seat when you remove it.  The carpet will help distribute the load (you) across more surface area of the springs.
