Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

Well I am still at it. Dont know if its my age or the darn heat. The weather has kicked my butt and I haven't been able to do much roofing. The last 2 days we got all of the back side done and half of the front. Tomorrow we plan on getting the rest of the front and maybe the ridge. Then we will spank out the garage roof. And hope to rap it all up by Wednesday. barges, flashing and vents oh my.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

With the heat of 85+ this roof has kicked my butt. We finished the whole house today and got 2/3s of the garage done. If all goes as planed we will finish the garage including barges, and only have my patio cover to finish. Maybe by thursday you think? it may not look like much but 29 squares is alot for a old man, including tair off.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

That's a fine lookin' job, Chris.  You've done that before I'll bet. I've done a few roofs but when we built my shop my buddy and I looked up at that 5:12 pitch and got a couple of youngsters to do it.  Also had them wrestle all that 5/8 sheeting up there.  Good decision for a couple of 66 year olds (at the time).  I did play monkey and set all the trusses.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

Thanks Bob, and everyone. 5/12 is nothing. We finished the house and garage today at noon with all the ridge installed. All that is left is the 10x10 patio out crop and one side of the truck garage. Should all be done by noon. Then we start on the inside. need to temp hang the garage door track so we can demo the the other trusses and remove the opener. When all the trusses are down I can fir out the end walls at the gables. need to clean up the wires, insulate and hang the ceiling.  I get the hi lift door kit mid week then i can move the door and take out the header. Lift is paid for and can pick it up any day next week. 30 min drive. but I got to drive 1 hour just for the trailer first.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

Looks good.  You may be using the wrong lubrication though.  The best roofer I ever knew swore by hot vodka.  At least when beer was unavailable and that's what he was able to find.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

BOYS & GIRLS. The roof is done, it killed me, I am burnt like a lobster.  I have decided that This is hard work and I should stick to cars. Now tomorrow I will instal the barge you guys thought I couldn't flash under trim a couple ends and touch up paint everything. Then we move inside where we will start the ceiling, wiring and insulation. garage door hi lift kit arrives Monday so maybe Tuesday I can move the door. Need to cut and reinstall the gutters too.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

And now you see why I got out of roofing 5 years ago.  There's good money in it, but the toll it takes on your body just isn't worth it.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

have you considered the concrete flooring being thick enough to support the car lift and car? when I built my garage I had the concrete poured 5" thick across the entire shop. you can always cut holes in your floor and do it that way too. depending on what kind of lift your are putting in. as if you already didn't have enough going on.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

Concrete is over rated, I am setting my on gravel, this way I can drain fluids and they just go into the ground. Yes a garage floor is adequate for a the 4 post lift. It is only 425 lbs more than the tire places on one corner and has twice the foot print for less weight pr square inch.

Don't we get fluids from the ground? 😁

NEW UPDATE 8/9/2020
we cleaned out the old and opened it up. Note the slab is present. And my garage looks like a bomb went off in it.

Re: PUTTIN IN A LIFT

The floor only needs to be 4" thick to support a two post lift that can hold 9,000lbs.  I drilled and checked mine before installing my two post and it was right there.  I've had my F250 up on that lift, which weighs +/- 8,000lbs. and never had an issue.  I'm sure you're good with a four post.
