Re: DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANSWER?? STEERING QUESTION

You may or may not need to.  The important thing is that the tie rods do not butt into each other When setting the toe.  If those adjusters were working with the old tie rods, AND you trim the new tie rods, they will probably work.

Re: DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANSWER?? STEERING QUESTION

DEWAYNE CUT THE TIE ROD ENDS 1/8. HE IS ASKING ME IF I WANT HIM TO MILL OFF 1/8 EACH END OF THE ONE PIECE SLEEVE. HE IS NOT THE ONE THAT IS LINING IT UP AND IF I WANT THEM MILLED DOWN HE WAS GONNA TAKE THEM TO WORK TOMORROW BEFORE PUTTING THEM ON. THE SHOCKS AND NEW ADJUSTABLE STRUT RODS CAME IN TODAY. THEY ARE ADJUSTABLE BUT DONT HAVE THE HEIM JOINT LIKE I PULLED OFF....THEY WILL BE MORE LIKE SOLID ONES WITH THE DUROMETER BUSHINGS. LESS MOVEMENT BUT STILL ADJUSTABLE.

Go ahead and mill them.  They will not be too short.

Re: DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANSWER?? STEERING QUESTION

Just asking here, why would you need to shorten the tie rods in the first place? And I like the solid rod adjusters.

Slammed Big Blue, ran over the varmints that messed with the Stang. Now all is good in the NW

Re: DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANSWER?? STEERING QUESTION

I HAVE MAVERICK SPINDLES AND MAVERICK OUTTER TIE ROD ENDS. I BELEIVE THAT THE ENDS WILL HIT DURING ALIGNMENT IF YOU DONT FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND.I THINK IT DOES SAME WHEN YOU USE GRANADA AND 69 MUSTANG SPINDLES TOO.

Due to the use of 67 or later spindles on a 65-66, the spindle geometry is different. If the tie rods are not shortened, they will butt against each other inside the adjusting sleeves before the alignment can be set to the proper toe-in.   If you just shorten the tie rods without also shortening the adjusting sleeves, the formed ends of the tie rods will hit the end of the sleeves, limiting their adjustment range.

Doing the eight cuts to accomplish installing the later spindles on a 65-66 will let you bolt everything up, but the steering geometry ( ackerman angle) is still not correct.  Just one of the issues one will have to deal with when using 67 or later spindles on a 65-66 Mustang.

My 66 came to me with 71 spindles.  About a month ago I installed the CSRP spindles with the corrected geometry.  I could not believe how much difference that little change made.
