Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

I have 4leaf Mustang Plus, reverse-eye springs.  GR4 shocks, 1 deg shims to fix pinion angle.  Reverse eye springs are better than blocks due to less flex under braking and acceleration.

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

I’ve got 4 leafs standard eye with 2” blocks. If a had the funds I would go with the reverse eye to eliminate the blocks. I also have 3 degree wedges to correct pinion angle.

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

These kind of wedges are metal sheet/plate that have, in this case, a 3 degree tilt, much like a wedge used to split wood, only much smaller.  they are placed between the spring top and the spring perch on the axle.  They come in varying degrees of wedge between 1-5 degrees.  They are used to slightly change the angle between the axle and the drive shaft.

I had a slight vibration in my car after installing the T5.  Putting the shims in slightly changed the pinion angle to get the trans, drive shaft, and axle into proper alignment.

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

4 leaf, reverse eye on a 66 mustang coupe.
No blocks.

Everything I heard was avoid blocks.  If you're redoing your setup then do it right and you shouldn't need blocks.

It’s something like pleading the 5th...not drinking a 5th.😜

Mustangs Plus 5 leaf mid eye.
No blocks, no wedges.

Had 235/60/14 BFG’s in past.
Currently 235/40/18 Pirelli P-Zero Nero A/S.

I either case, back spacing is your friend on wheels.

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

Mustangs Plus 5 leaf mid-eye
KYB GAS-A-JUST
No blocks
No wedges
235/60/14 BFG (bottom) w/o Arning/Shelby 1” drop
235/40/18 Pirelli (top) w/Arning/Shelby 1” drop

The KYB’s are stiff for potholed and washboard roads, unless you have your fillings JB Welded and like drifting out of control.
They are great for smooth roads like interstate.
29 years ago, shock choices were limited to Monroe’s (failed twice on me), KYB’s affordable, and then there were the high end Koni’s (beyond my budget).

I may go with Vikings on next upgrade for rear.
I have Viking coil overs in the front with the 18’s and definitely like them.
Have them set on the softer side for now.

I hear 4 1/2’s work well too.
I finally removed my rear sway bar last year due to oversteer.
Just remember that back spacing is your friend.
HAVE FUN...I was yelling 😂

With the 10 hole 14” Cragars, I used Mustangs Plus 620 front springs as purchased with KYB Gas a just.
Did not cut or modify springs.

Note:  Cragar 10 holes I purchased from....Super Shops in Fresno,CA could have more back spacing to tuck the wider tires.  With the 620’s and 5 mid eye, I occasionally had slight scrape on passenger rear....years  later I found out I could have slightly shifted the axle from fender lip.

Old 14” setup:
Stock style upper control arms
stock location and shaft centered
Stock style lower arms
Stock strut rods with poly bushings
1-1/8” front sway bar
3/4” rear sway bar
620 springs/ stock perches

New 18” setup:
Stock style upper control arms
Arning/Shelby 1” drop location and shaft offset 1 full revolution for increased caster
Stock style lower arms with Energy Suspension poly bushings
Stock strut rods with poly bushings
1-1/8” front sway bar
3/4” rear sway bar...removed and sold already
Viking coil overs with 350# springs for small blocks ( height is adjustable) with poly bushings

Re: 1966 TELL ME YOUR SETUP ON YOUR REAR RIDE HEIGHT

I used to have 1/2” tapered lowering blocks on my car.  I now have 1/2” aluminum flat blocks to get the stance I wanted with 4-1/2 leaf, reverse eye springs.  Pinion angle is mathematically perfect with my custom mount for my TKO600 transmission, but I still have some kind of harmonic issue above 74mph.   If I ever get energetic, I may play around with pinion angle again.  Or just install a cruise control and set cruise speed for 73 mph.

I'll bet the under on the number of trips MS sets the cruise control at 73 in his Mustang.
